13 years of sales and marketing tell me it's a great idea. The restriction isn't that harsh, unless people are looking for a free game to play. And there are plenty who play the isle, never coming to mainland. My subscription fees should not pay for someone else's free game.

I say this with all due respect. :)

1. absolutely not. there were so many things at lvl 21 that i didn't know about.
2. no because it is an unlimited free trial, not a limited until you pay trial. this is blackmail
3. complete mis-advertising. putting a limit on a trail advertised as unlimited is straight up lying
4. at lvl 21 i still felt lost and kind of confused. for one, there is the issue of the new growth tree between lvl 20 and lvl 50. it was the players over 30 that really helped me figure things out. also there is the matter of the kriosta in the Prime Root jungle. you would need 20 or so characters at lvl 20 to fight againts it and there would still probably be massive casualties.

don't get me wrong, i really love this game. however, i was shocked and dissapointed to learn today of the new restrictions that had been put on my "unlimited" free trial. i'm going to stop playing now for a while and check in occasionally to see what's up. but unless things change or i magically find enough free time to make it worth paying $15 a month, i probably wont be playing ryzom again.

what you mean the ppl who have been playing for months and have no intention of ever subbing? course not.

But equally i dont understand why you think this will reduce the % of ppl converting to a paying account, it would seem to me this would increase as all the ppl looking for a free game will go somewhere else and ppl who actually want to see whats what will still try the trial, there is no detrimental effect to that.

but anyways enough from me, i've said all i wanted to & not going to argue about it.

i get the feeling i have slipped into some slightly alternate reality tonight. Why would any business bend over backwards and throw their money and manpower at people who are never planning on buying their products?

am astounded that people are upset about this!

There are many things at level 91 that I don't know. I'm subscribed happily learning as I play a great game. Unlimited in time, limited in xp until you subscribe, then you can finish the rest of the isle if you wish before moving to mainland. It's not mis-advertising, it's perfectly valid and legitimate. Nevrax reserves the right to change their policies. That's in the EULA which you have to agree to EVERYTIME you log in. The kirosta is now paid content. You can level up to take it once you have subscribed to the game.

Rushin, you have hit the nail right on the head. The sense of entitlement is more than slightly offensive to me as a paying customer. The trial should have limitations to it to avoid freeloaders from taking system resources and support funds from mainland content.

Only if they keep the "unlimited" text in this button:

This post as well as the Goodbye Cruel World post from Invincible Jay (or whatever the name is) pretty much sums up why they have to do this. Too many people seem to be taking advantage of the system. It is meant to be a free TRIAL. As in, play for a while, see if you like it then subscribe or move on. Trial does not mean play for month after month after month without contributing one red cent to the developers.

The game is free. The trial is free. The cost for an entire month is less than it costs for movie and popcorn for one night for one person.

Why so bitter at a lower level limit?

There have been a number of good arguments on both sides that have been very interesting to read. Keep them coming! I thank you all for a wonderful debate thus far.

I have had a free trial acount for about a week and a half and I am above level 21 in skills. Honestly, I havent decided yet if this is the game for me. Although I am leaning toward "yes", the one small thing that does slighlty miff me is that I feel my hand is being forced upon me to make a decision before I am ready. Not that it is neccessarily a bad thing as sometimes people need a little push once in a while.

I do look forward to the challenges that await me with a paid subscription, even though I feel that I may not be ready to tackle those challenges. Nothing better than "Trial by Fire" eh!!! (anyone know a well established guild that can provide guidance, and when i grow i can return the favor and be a contrbuting member as well?)

Having said that, I do generally agree that this change will provide more good than more bad. I hope to see you all on the mainland soon!

Depending on the movie theater, the monthly fee could very well be cheaper. Last time I took my little one to see a movie, the small bag of popcorn was $6.00 USD. Robbery I say!!

There are many players who will be more than willing to help you get the rest of it figured out. You certainly won't be "hung out to dry". :)
