Hello everyone,
I'm sure most everyone here has long forgotten me, but hopefully there's some old faces still around. I participated in Ryzom's beta and played through the game's early stages. To me, Ryzom was such a fresh idea and I really enjoyed supporting an independent studio daring to create an MMO on such a tight budget. It really says a lot about a company who can manage their own custom built engine and maintain a formidable title on an overly saturated market.
Sadly, I had to leave the game because I had to face the responsibilities of life and chase my own dream. Since I have left, I have neared my graduation date while securing job as a Developer for a studio here in the States, looking to overcome adversity just as Nevrax has done. Because of the grueling schedules the industry requires, I'm unable to enjoy a wide library of games like I did in the past. However, I have determined that I do have enough time to enjoy one of them, casually, on the weekends and in the evenings. Because of this, I have decided to bypass a couple of my favorites, such as City of Heroes and EVE Online, and rejoin the Saga of Ryzom.
I have some questions before I make my decision final. Being that I have not played in ages, will reasserting myself into the game be difficult? Will I need to take a lot of time to adapt to the changes throughout the past year or so? Have any of the mechanics changed so dramatically that the veterans have since left or will it affect my desire to play casually? I look forward to continuing my support for Nevrax, but I want to ensure that I will not be alienated by the present differences that now separate the game that was 2 years ago and the game that exists now.
I would rather this company have access to my wallet than any other. I appreciate your opinions in advance and best of luck to everyone with their endeavors!
Stellus

Re: How are things on Atys?
You've missed the big upheavals and things seem to have settled down again after that. I'm not sure when you left, was it before or after Patch 1? Combat is faster than it was at launch, there's been a bit of tinkering with magic balance, otherwise mechanics aren't a lot different but we now have Outposts, after a fashion, and Ryzom Ring to play with.
If you find a good supportive and casual friendly guild, you should be fine.

Re: How are things on Atys?
possibly the first thing that will impact on your game is your fame.
about a year ago there was a patch that revamped the fame. all those charachters that were created before the patch were set to an 'undetermined' state as a transitional stage. in this state you cannot buy any tp's or gain/lose any fame.
so the first thing you will need to do is set this to either neutral or do the accociated rites to become faction or civ alligned.
faction
on the right of your screen go to communications->fame. make sure you are on the 'you' tab and look to see what your fame is for the 2 different factions (kami/karavan) if you have more than 50 fame with either one of them you may want to do the rite straight away since if you chose to go neutral you will lose any fame above 50. if it is below 50 then i'd recomend setting your alligance to neutral so as to give you some time to decide. once this is done you will be able to buy tp's again. you can declare faction at 30 fame and this is done at the temples which were braught in during episode2
as neutral most tp's will be open to you. however to get tp's in 250 zones you will need to be factioned and have 33 fame. to get pr tp's you will need to be factioned and have 60 fame
civilisation
in the same window you will see you are also set to undecided with civ too. again if you have fame of over 50 in one race (matis/fyros/tryker/zoarï) then setting to neutral will cap this down to 50. remaining undecided for a bit won't really impact your game play as much as faction so take a bit of time to decide if you wish to go neutral or swear aligance to one of the races. civ fame only really impacts on npc prices and what rites you can do. as neutral you can get up to 50 fame in all races and so be able to do all the rites however if you declare then you can work this up to 100 for better npc prices. civ rites can be done in the capitals for each respective race.
it's nice to see players returning so welcome back

In case you haven't done so already you should probably check out the stickies in the Newcomer Welcome Board

Re: How are things on Atys?
Thanks so much for the replies. I'll be sure to go over the links and material you provided. I think as long as the community still has the same love for the game and the company, I should find it easy to get back into everything. The one thing I will never forget is that the Ryzom community is the best!

Re: How are things on Atys?
A couple more questions which are more out of curiosity:
Did they ever fix the bug where the Pre-Order item wore out?
&
Has there been another 'Respecification' after Patch 1, where players can reallocate their SP?

I don't have a preorder item, but I think all items detoriate when used.stellus wrote: Did they ever fix the bug where the Pre-Order item wore out?
What changed is, that you can store the Pre-Order items in your appartement or on your packers, as far as I know.
