Powerlevelling fighting in a game like this really doesn't gain you much, as you don't have the equipment to back it up. You really need a crafter powerlevelling with you to keep you stocked, and that crafter needs a harvester. The interdependence is very key in this game - crafted goods are essential!
Why would I want to be 250 in a particular category when the best weapon I can pick up is around Q100 or so? (I'm sure there's higher out there, but this is the highest I've commonly seen.)
No powerlevel option?
Re: No powerlevel option?
I tend to agree with kisedd. Everyone has the right to play as they wish, but leaving a legacy that adversly affects other players is a common thread of MMORPGs.
Seems like the power gamers get to the top levels and then, correctly, voice their opinions. However, MMORPGs all too often listen to the screamers (squeaky wheel gets the grease) and experience is directly or indirectly nerfed. One can only hope Nevrax listens to reason, instead of screamers.
Of course, this shall also be a good indicator of how Nevrax intents to proceed with game development.

Re: No powerlevel option?
As a side note, many power gamers are also very knowledgable, very helpful, and iron out many of the bugs so we casual players have a better game. Thank you to them.
Re: No powerlevel option?
Umm lets please not forget the fact that there are different types of games other than those who play according to the amount of time they choose to spend.
I am an explorer myself, I run around and die all the time because I like to check out new things and see where I can sneak into. The game is perfect for me.
My friend Cody is a collector. He likes to do every little mission and collect every little thing. This game would be terrible for him. Sure there's what...8 different types of tasks for him? that's lame from his point of view. Even I don't do harvesting quests until I find the mat first.
Instead he plays CoH which suits him perfectly. Ryzom could once everything is added, but right now he'd have to be hack'n'slash or explorer to have fun.
I'm not trying to flame this post, It's just that I noticed all the support for the game blames 'powerlevelers' ie. those who spend more time playing than we do for the complaints. Chances are there still ARE powerlevelers and because the land is so vast, you never see them. they are out doing big important things like killing 4 story high monsters or going to other lands...which are the only big important things to do right now!

I'm so sick of seeing this subject time and time again that I am actually going to respond to it.
What the -hell- is wrong with powerlevelling?
If I like to play a game and optimize my experience/time as far as I can, why do people have such a problem with this? Envy? Some pre-disposed assumption that playing the game for a year getting a level a day is the "right" way to play? It "ruins" the game for others?
One claim is that powerlevelling "increases the grind for people who dont want to powerlevel". How self-referential. You mean to tell me that these people who think levelling slow is the "right way to play" are complaining about the time to level being increased? Now -there- is some humor for you.
Another thing mentioned, people exploring. The explorer in question cites "I die a lot". Why do you think some of us powerlevel?? We don't -want- to die when we see new lands, we'd like a chance to survive the encounter of new mobs...since devs aren't in the habit of saying "Oh you need level <blah> to survive in this zone"....we figure we'll get as high as we can before going into it.
Finally, there's talk about "rushing through the game". The people who are 150-200+ spend time in the game just like everyone else, they just do more of it per day and/or accomplish more per day. Why is this bad? Is there some sort of game envy going on here? Maybe there are those who would like to play the game this much and cant, and so take it out on those who can?
So, geez...get over it already. If your playstyle is different, that's cool! Just dont bash mine. I'd be just as insensed if the powergamers came in and said "I hate weak n00bs or casual players, they ruin the game". Please please dont bash a playstyle because you cant or wont understand or play it.

I don't know about others, but I seperate powerLEVELing from powerGAMEing.qwipso20 wrote:I'm so sick of seeing this subject time and time again that I am actually going to respond to it.

As a rule, powerLEVELing is considered cheating. (i.e. people participating in content beyond their level, for gain not usually available to them)
And please don't give me any BS about "If the game allows it, it's not cheating"
I don't normally have anything against powerGAMErs, they rob themselves. Just spending the same number of minutes in the game, doesn't mean you got as much out of the experience. If you spend all of your time in one spot, maximizing your XPs, you won't see nearly as much as a person who travels all over(dieing or not) looking at stuff.
And, as a rule, I don't enjoy the company of powergamers, too much stress.

Agreed, your stupid if you decide to powerlevel too fast and leave everyone behind. Not only does it cripple that skill (you cant use it in groups) it hurts people in your guild who havent caught up to you yet.
We set a limit of level 130 in our guild, because that is as high as weapons and skills will allow us to go at the moment without reason to go higher. Why? SOme peopel would ask, figure, we are at q140 weapons, with a tops of making q120 weapons (could make q130, but those are worthless, and a 5% for q140 wont work).
Now, with those in place, explain to me how a level 150+ mage is any better then a mage thats at level 120? You cant be, your limited by that one staff, q120, hence, powergamers have no fit right now, they are uslessly cruising past the crafters (They wont have weaposn available for their levels) and no one will want to listen to them when they whine saying they cant kill anythign anymore because the nerf bat hit a home-run on blind. THen they suddenly cant group with anyone anymore because, naturally, they are too high of a level in that particular skill.
The beauty of it. We can switch to different skills, at any time, hence a character with a single level 150 skill obviously hasnt invested any time into his character compared to a player who has reachede high levels of crafting, magic, and magery and has 5+ skills at 100+.
You do the math, this game isnt for powergamers, your hurting yourself, your guild, and with this system, there is no reason to do it.

Re: No powerlevel option?
Ehhhhh.....
Such hate towards people who try and do well...
'Powergamers' like to do well, it's how they enjoy themselves. Nothing wrong with that is there? I enjoy doing well, I try to do my best in everything that I do. Does this make me a poor gamer? Is it inflicting harm on other people because I go through and harvest/explore/craft/level in a more expediant fashion than a 'casual gamer'?
Ryzom is tailored to both the casual gamer and powergamer. You can go explore, kill, harvest, craft at a fast or slow rate. Powergamers are the ones who are responsible for getting those higher level gear available to others. Responsible for paving the way for others. If it weren't for the powergamers, Very few, if any civilizations would have made contact with each other. And no one would have made it to or from the trykerlands. All the trykers would still be using q50 gear, or gear made from quartered mats, but still way under par of other civilizations.
Powergamers play how its fun for them. Casual players play how its fun for them. There is no reason for one side to hate the other because of their playstyle. I rue the day when the crusade against the powergamer comes. People can have such a religious ferver for anything.
Cry havoc and let loose the dogs of war....against those who don't like cheese!

Re: No powerlevel option?
I think this was the point I made in my post, so I'll try to give my view on this. I don't have anything against people playing how they want. Many high level players are quite nice, more so in Ryzom perhaps, than in other games I've played.qwipso20 wrote:I'm so sick of seeing this subject time and time again that I am actually going to respond to it.

Lets take harvesting. A percentage of the player base has zoomed up into some pretty powerful levels. 150-200 or whatever levels they are. Now on the test server, are some major changes to harvesting. The skills cost more credits. The actions are going to be harder. Bascially, this will slow down the level progression.
Why? Well players play in ways that developers don't see and don't want to happen. Unintended play. Now I'm going to get to play under a different rule set than the players zoomed on up and found all these stradegies to quickly level.
I have no idea how long it would have taken me to get to level 150-200 under the current system. All I know is it will take me a lot longer under any new system.
So what do I resent; the people who are level 200? No. I resent the effect that their actions will now have on my gameplay experience. It's not that I choose to level slowly, I just do. Now I get to be punsished because I don't powergame.
