(I would like one too, but we all know that is what they are for. Why would we need portals to carry us to an adjacent land? If the areas of known Atys are really separated by a great distance, why aren't the portals available in more convienent locations? If the Karavan can make them, why can't they make them go between capital cities?karmelit wrote:(I need a better explanation than just game mechanics for the portals IC)
There are a few lore mentions of the things. Mostly in the chronicles, and even there, mostly vague:
http://www.ryzom.com/dev/chronicles/arc ... erm=portal
"Using the magic sap artifact recovered in the Nexus the Karavan, sanctioned by the Kami, had created a magic portal between Fyros and Zorai. The Kitins were however, determined to prevent the Homins gaining access to this and had blocked it with boulders and bodies."
This paticular paragraph sends up a huge WTF flag. The karavan, using a magic artifact to create a portal, between adjacent lands? For the Fyros and Zoria? And they had the Kamis blessing to do it? Almost no part of that makes any sense at all, really.
There are other references, most recounting stories of things that happened around or through the portals.
They are, in the end, a game mechanic. That they are spawn points is similarly a game mechanic. That there is no kami/karavan presence attached to the portals is really more evidence of them being 'outside the lore' so to speak; and I belive it was an oversight.
i would like a lore based reason as to why they exist, and why homins can spawn there, but i don't really expect one.)
