50M Deposit Tracking

Post by laurowen »

Would someone please explain how 50M (or any other distance for that matter) Deposit Tracking is supposed to work?

I'm working on the quest "Art of Harvesting #4" which has the object of finding one Fine Zun Amber using the 50M tracking skill. So I click on skill and it gives a message along the line of "deposit within 1M, or very close blah, blah, blah" but nothing is indicated. Moreover, how is it supposed to know what I'm looking for?

Thanks

The tracking action is best used in combination with material-specific (i.e. Amber) and grade-specific (i.e. Fine) stanzas.

I did make an action with the grade specific of Fine but it didn't seem to be any different than the action of grade specific Fine without the 50M tracking. The Amber extraction stanza is only available at Level 40, so does this indicate that the quest is Level 40?

At that level you generally won't have item specific tracking abilities. And your prospecting range and angle won't be much at all. So what will happen when you use 50M tracking is that you will be led to a spot and when you prospect, you'll be told that nothing could be found. It's frustrating, but you have to turn around slowly, maybe move a little from side to side when prospecting. This becomes less a problem at higher levels of prospecting.

For the particular quest in question, I'll give you a spoiler if you want, with some room to avoid reading it if you don't want to...

Look on your map, zoomed in a bit. See the "E" in Karavan Embassy? Look there for the Fine Zun Amber. :)

You seem to have solved the problem but in case others are reading this with a similar problem, just quickly:

Tracking finds the local area, but to actually "pop the source" (bring it to the surface from underground and thus not visible to the eye), you have to "prospect."

So, when the tracking tells you "you are within 1 m", you need to then move about in that localized area and do some prospecting to find where you can pop sources from.

Unfortunately the "1 m" is misleading.... it sounds far more precise than it actually is. What I usually do is open my map right there and mark "Amber??" as a landmark. Then I move around within 20m of the spot, and do prospecting, usually while aiming at the landmark (using the compass). Most of the time that works.

Great explanation behind the principle of tracking and nice example of how to implement it.

Thanks again guys!
