What does everyone think about a SoR podcast? I don't have the skills, time or knowledge to make one myself unfortunatly, but if there was one I would give it a listen
I don't know if anyone would be interested in making one, but it would be nice if there was a real community run one. Especially with Ryzom Ring here, people can recommend the best Ring scenarios of the week/fortnight/month etc however often its run.
Was just a thought, in the remote hope of sparking the idea in someones head

If it's length was kept in the 30 minute neighborhood, I would definitely subscribe. I'm really enjoying the whole podcast phenom but it's important that podcasters don't just flip on the mic and ramble until they pass out. Good editing and creation of small, tight bits is key. See The Signal for a great example of something like this.
If small segments wired together into a single show is the goal, then the effort could be decentralized and multiple people could submit content to a single editor who would put it together. Submissions should follow some simple guidelines to make it easier to put it all together. Guidelines such as:
- short, 5 minutes maybe?
- on a specific topic, don't ramble
- limit discussions of faction or PvP issues to being purely fact-oriented. *or*
- balance opinionated topics with submissions from someone with a differing opinion. i.e. if you get a strongly pro-X submission, exclude it from inclusion until you've had a chance to call for an anti-X submission to balance it.
- be very clear about whether you are speaking in-character or out-of-character and stick to it.
The editor then assembles the bits and posts it. The editor should also create a thread for each episode to collect feedback.
I don't have the time to commit to such a thing, but I wish I did. I will say that if someone were to commit to this and wanted to call for a few donations to help with bandwidth costs, I would be interested in helping that way.
Also, I suspect I could get a couple of our guildies interested in creating segments for this.

Some great ideas here!
I won't have the time for a project like this for a couple of weeks, in the process of moving, but would after the fact. If not organizing it, I'd at least love to help out.

I like the idea of various people doing sections a few minutes long they could submit to a central editor.

Aye, it's a great concept! Gives a voice to more people from a centralized location, and increases the likelyhood of success of such a project. Very nifty idea!

QFE except the opinion part I think this a a good idea, especially if skill editing were included ya know just some tips and tricks! Ring scenario creation would be cool too!katriell wrote:I've never listened to a podcast, so I have no opinion.

Some people assume you can't listen to a podcast if you don't have an iPod, but all you need is a bit of software like iTunes any of the other "podcatchers" out there.katriell wrote:I've never listened to a podcast, so I have no opinion.
Podcasts are usually standard mp3 files and should therefore be playable with a wide variety of methods:
1. mp3 player of any kind
2. burn to CD (I use iTunes for this)
3. listen using the podcatcher software
4. listen using winamp or other favorite media player
5. listen using the ingame mp3 player
Honestly, the only thing that makes a podcast different than just posting mp3 files up on a web site is an RSS file that documents each episode in a computer-readable format. The podcatcher software uses this file to know what's changed and only download new episodes automatically so you don't have to do it manually.
If this project took off, links to the raw .mp3 files could be posted in the feedback thread so those without podcatcher software could download them manually if they wanted.
@rothimar - the thing I personally like about podcasts versus some other forms of internet radio (and I'm not an expert on live365) is the ability to listen to them on my terms (time and playback method).
If you're looking for an example of a podcast that is game oriented, the mmo site mmorpg.com has one at this link. Copy/paste the RSS link at the bottom of that page into your podcatcher software and it should handle it automatically. It's not as tightly produced as I would like, but it's not bad.
(apologies, Katriell, if you already knew all this, but your comment seemed a perfect place to give a bit of podcast background)
