Race question?

Post by mynestyr »

Hi all, I am brand new to ryzom and i have a question... I was looking through the different races, Fyros, Zorais, Tryker and Matis and was wondering what difference there is between them.. I would like to be a mage or a crafter and really like the look of the fyros.. does it matter which race i choose or are they all equal.. Im not looking for a best or anything like that just dont want to start at a stupid disadvantage..

Thanks in advance

Aesthetics and homeland layout are the only real differences. There isn't any detriment really to any of them.

I'd add the lore to that...
While I'm aware that most will create their character upon its looks, I'd advise to base that selection on the races lore and their allegiance to the two higher powers, to suit one's own game style or RP opinions more easily.
Still, playing a Karavan Zoraï or a Kami Matis is possible, and possibly fun as well -if intended-, but more cumbersome as well.

More cumbersome in what way?

Each race has some starting Fame with their traditional faction. If you decide that you would rather align yourself with the other faction then you face considerably more work to prove yourself worthy to take that faction rite than someone who chooses the traditional faction.

Exactly. That's the technical part of "more cumbersome". In addition there's the spawns, which are distributed by fame, ie. as Kami you won't be able to have Karavan city spawns in Matis or Tryker territory, eg. Avendale or Natae; and teleport tickets sales are denied if approached with opposing allegiance and fame. A bit restrictive if you're "young" and don't emigrate.
There's also a social part to it... Let's pretend you want to play a Matis who is Kami aligned. By not having equal spawns and teleports, your fellow Matis will very soon smell you're Kami even if you don't tell or flag... Especially these pale people might react somewhat *ermh* discriminating... which might prove a bit hindersome at times. Of course, that's a worst case scenario...isn't it?
If that's what you wish to roleplay, go ahead and have fun. Because RP fun it will be (no kidding).
