Have opinions and things changed?

Come in, pull up a chair, let's discuss all things Ryzom-related.

Would Kami extremist RP be welcome in Ryzom now?

Yes! Ryzom has gotten to tame. Lets kill the Karavan!

I don't care, just as long as your RP doesn't get near my gameplay.

Not really, the event took place before global PvP was implemented.

Of course, all of the following is OOC, or "In-Person", as I am fond of reading in one person's signature:

Something to remember is that not everyone roleplays, and not everyone roleplays in Regional. People get a little strange when they see someone say something disparaging to another person... even if in RP. One example was a Fyros who had some derisive opinions about a Matis and voiced them in Regional. It was perfectly in RP, but was mistaken by a lot of non-roleplayers who REALLY liked the Matis in question. You probably encountered a lot of similar rebuffs/retaliations.

I'm fairly new, and play a Matis. While neutral, her obvious preference is for what she's been taught growing up. Kami give her the heebie-jeebies... with their creepy eyes, and long spindly fingers, and then the little fat ones made of just blackness... *shudder* Where was I...

Personally, I am by and large with 'grimjim' on this. None of the poll options QUITE match.

While I was on Silan, I Rp'd with a fellow who played a rather bull-headed and staunch Kamist Zorai. (He's mentioned in Jez's journal, early on.) We butted heads a lot. He made my Matis girl cry at least once, because she's just not that forceful about Jenaism and the Karavan and he could not be reasoned with (according to her anyway - he argued she had no sound reasoning).

Anyhow. I rambled a bit here.

A little for/against brain-play from me personally:

Bleh to Zealotry - it gets tiresome to try to buttheads with a fanatic. Conversations are inherently circular, and the only means of getting through to one seems to be violence. Eventually any character that might interact with the Zealot in question is just going to STOP interacting with them. Unless they are a glutton for punishment, or enjoy arguement for the sake of arguement. I'm not one of them, and I'm the only one I can represent. *grin*

For Zealotry; There's at least one in every bunch. It'd be 'realistic' to have a few of those running around, particularly given the nature of the Kami.

I only half agree with the statement that the Kami are violent. That they are childlike implies that they CAN react violently, without compassionate thought. THAT I agree with. Those Kami on Silan were kind of scary in their forceful wish for utter decimation of the goo-infected animals.

I hope there's some semblance of opinion you can glean from all this. :D

Welcome back, regardless of your decision!

Raynes, for guys like me you are certainly missed. Since the server merge RP has changed totally as there is a different mix of folks. I miss the old days of faction RP, now we are all called fanatics because there are so few of us left and most of the current RPers are not RPing a faction so much as the game (which somehow excludes lore/faction/race/allegiances/treaties).

Just play the way you prefer, don't expect us (at least the numbers of the past) to muster up a posse when you are killing the Green Seeds anymore, there just aren't enough of us left that take faction RP as fun and not personal to enjoy it again. Most of all don't let anyone else ruin your game for you, your gameplay is not based on making their gameplay style relevant. You'll find it harder to RP with all the chants of Kumbaya echoing thru the air...

It saddens me to hear that. On the other hand "You'll find it harder to RP with all the chants of Kumbaya echoing thru the air" makes me want to rp my old way even more.

From what I remember of those times, Raynes, your extremist RPing never came across as griefing to me. Now I never spoke with you directly and I don't pretend to have watched you every move, I'm just judging from the times I overheard you in region or events. Even if it was sometimes a continuous stream of insults towards the karavan followers, it always seemed clear to me that it was just played, character-to-character, with not a trace of hard feelings to the players behind the characters. As far as I could tell, as a player you played that way in an effort to make the game more fun for everyone, not to ruin other player's fun.

Like Grim said, extremists seem to carry it OOC to the forums, which is bad. As long as you can avoid doing that and play the way I remember you, keeping IC and OOC seperated and leaving the karavan hatred in the IC, then as far as I'm concerned you're welcome to pick up where you left of ;)

That's true, but if someone has the most fun playing a charicature, I don't see why they shouldn't. And in the case of an evil character, if it's a charicature, that just makes it more obvious that it's all played and that the player doesn't really have anything against me.

We certainly do not play the same game man, and I was giving my interpretation to someone whose gameplay I respect. I certainly wasn't trying to imply progression and actually hinted at something otherwise. Again this is MY assessment which would probably much closer to Raynes gameplay type than yours and I am sure he didn't think I felt we had progressed. I have written in the past about what I miss most from this game, the old members of Infinity and Comitus Praetorian (CP) as well as many Karavan old timers can tell you about the old times. Windemeer was different than Aristople, and the merge was not good for NA RP... an era in SoR was lost due to a difference most likely due to community. The Euro's that used to play Windemeer were surely as shocked as all of us from NA about how the game changed.

Definately.
Which is why I make observations about differences in gaming culture between EU and US that some people protest so much about. There IS a fundamental difference I've seen it in multiple MMORPGs, I've seen it in LARP I've seen it in tabletop gaming.

It seems like neither camp were well served by the change unfortunately but I definately see a decline (IMO) from the progressive/cooperative Atys even from the time of the server merge to what we see now.

From long and bitter experience I tend to conclude that evil characters are GREAT... if everyone else is also playing an evil character. Now there's an MMO concept that hasn't been touched before :)
