Just one more thing about Bomb, Ricochet and Spray: I´ve bomb, don´t need to get Ricochet and Spray for now, because all are AoE spells, with the same function, right?!

Hm, I think I´ll get Sap Gift 2.

Thanks!
They work differently.

Ricochet bounces from person to person in a, seemingly, random fashion.
Bomb hits people in a spreading-outward motion from where it hits.
Spray hits people in a fan template.

Column fire (like autolaunchers) might be a nice addition :)

Wait ;)
Ricochet and spray are rarely used, if ever, by most people.

You might find you like them for something, but it can definitely wait until you have SP in more abaundance.

Bomb is the general purpose AoE.

Got two questions.

1.Which spells are essential for being a good Offensive magician?

2.Which spells are essential for being a good Defensive magician?

Might note that I've not gotten ricochet to work for either healing spells or combat spells. The times I've tried it I've been told I can't cast at neutral targets or some such thing. (say, two stingas right next to each other and nothing else in range)

Cone works but takes some finess to use well I think. I had not been aware of a tapering off at the outer edge ... I'll have to test that part.

Bombs are by clear and far the easiest to use.

couple of observations.

"gift" spells. Once you have bought your first of these, doesnt matter if its Life, Sap or Stamina, you will have access to Hitpoint Credits for your spells. From now on, instead of learning the "readymade" version of spells, scroll to the bottom of the trainers list, and just buy the upgrades. this way you can avoid paying for time credits if you dont intend to use them. This applies to any magic skill*... once you have the 1st level stanza, all further improvements can be learnt as upgrades
*doesnt apply to auras/self heals/speeds/invulnerabilty tho

Fear, and other afflictions. It may be tempting to grab and use the upgrades as soon as they are available, but I would advise checking your success chance on your old version vs the new one. You will find that with a newly acquired upgrade, your chance of successfully casting is much lower, until you go up a few more levels. Mobs may break the lower level link more easily, but your odds of scoring a link and getting xp are better with a weaker spell.

Ricochet works Ok in heals, and offensively ( I love the mental imagery of a Ricochet'd Rot spell.. chunks splattering everywhere :D )- but I havent set up identical bomb/ricochet spells side by side to check the difference. Spray works as a narrow cone directed away from you starting at your target. Apparently this is exactly the same as the Autolauncher. It is usable offensively, tho without the ranged ability to shoot&scoot you cant keep your targets in a line.. but with heals I cant see it being worthwhile.

After a while you get so many magic skill points, you do end up buying everthing on the list :p

For Remyt, a defensive mage is a healer.. so all the heal spells, with a bomb version set up for use in parties, when you get past level 100 and have double spells, set up a hp+hp heal, a hp+sap heal, and a hp+stam heal, again with bomb versions. Single spells are more economical than doubles, so keep them available for lower threat environments. Fear is probably the emergency spell of choice, so keep it handy also.

Offensive Magic pretty much relies on the elemental damage spells, afflictions not being reliable enough at lower levels. Depending on how many skill points you have, get a few different types of elemental damage spells, and stick to hunting what you are effective against.

Yep he uses the wrong slash. But also different case, and as far as my knowledge go that can also cause problems in php (on wich this board runs).

But now back to magic:
What is the easiest way to level affliction? As I understanded it up to know you will have to hit the mob once to get xp. So just rooting, stunning, blinding or something else when others kill it doesn't give you xp. Or did someone told me wrong about that? So how do you level it best? I ask it know before my offensive magic is way over the level of my affliction and taking away to much xp to hit the mob once with it.

Just landing any affliction during a batle will get you XP. You don't need to do damage, if that's what you mean by "hit"

A single root/stun/blind whatever that lands (not resisted) will be plenty to get XP.

Blind/stun are great for teaming with melee, makes them take less damage and thte mob unable to dodge/parry.

Root/fear can be used without a tank and just an elemental damage dealer to keep it away from you.

Madness is fun but will still generally need a tank- I find it best for high damage dealing mobs like carnivores. You won't see much effect from madness with something that deals less damage and has lots of HP like a bodoc.

to gain xp with afflictions all you need to do is connect.. even momentarily.

because they wont kill things (apart from madness), you will need to be in a party with damage dealers.. People leveling Ranged are often grateful for an afflictionist using Blind or Stun to help them hit..
Afflictionists are good in a team with melees, but Elementalists tend to kill mobs before you can get a link, so avoid them like a nasty disfiguring plague ;)
Melees hate it when you Fear the mob they are fighting, it runs away and the not-very-bright melees chase it, usually into a swarm of aggro.
