In SWG they solved that fine when it came to pvp rating. BUT, they didnt reward a high pvp rating with anything.
On MMORPG.com there's a nice article about MMO design that has an example about a situation similar to what you are proposing. I believe it was in UO (too lazy to look it up...) It was about a use based skill system. In the example you could get a higher resistance again fall damage by.....falling so what people did was run up a cliff, jump off, take fall dmg, heal, run back up the cliff, jump off,....etc, etc, ect....
A PvP ranking system will encourage those with fragile ego's to grind pk's just so they can wear a neat lil title; it's not something that belongs in Ryzom.
on a side note tiger: guildwars has some really nice PvP titles...
