Can Ryzom be played through an HTTP Proxy?

Post by 99flake »

I've just moved into Halls of Residence and there's no direct internet access -"The IP addresses allocated for Halls of Residence connections are non-Internet-routeable. This means that they can not access anything outside the University network directly: all access must go via the proxy service. This means that any Internet application which cannot use a "CERN-compatible authenticating HTTP proxy" cannot be used."

Is it possible to get Ryzom to run or am I going to have to abandon the game?

Thanks,

If you can get the admins to open up the various ports needed then you might be able to do it. But I would say that they do the proxy just for this reason: to keep games/downloading from sucking up all the bandwidth.

The ports are listed in your 'welcome to ryzom' email and in the Networking FAQ

Apparenltly it's a limitation of the way the system was set up ten years ago rather than a decision by current IT Support. They can't open up any ports, have no objection to people using software to get round the problem but equally can't offer any support for that. So I'm failing to get SocksCap and HTTP Tunnel working to get round the problem, which is no fun at all. It would be so much easier if they had a SOCKS v4 or v5 proxy available.

I hope I can get something cobbled together as I really don't to lose my character.

Your character should be safe enough. :)
