It is a SAD day on Atys!
Re: It is a SAD day on Atys!
I came to know Dardis very well. His notorious 56k Connection often leaving him Gassed out in FF. A shame to loose him!RIP m8
Re: It is a SAD day on Atys!
Dardis was one of the first people I met the last time I returned to Ryzom, just looking at the date of this post, shows me that it wasn't long before this terrible tradgedy occurred.
Dardis didn't know me from Adam and thought I was only newly arrived in Atys for the first time (I had given away all my stuff prior to leaving), without any hesitation he offered me dappers, and equipment to help me get started.
I used to meet Dardis alot back then, both of us soloing in FF and ressing each other.
When a stone is cast into a lake, the ripples spread and disappear.... but still the stone remains
Rest easy Dennis.

Being newer to the game, I never had the pleasure of meeting you Dardis, but my thoughts and prayers are with you and yours.

I didn't know you, Dardis, but I can say this:
Any one of the players on this and other games could also be a heroic and challenged person in RL. Remember that, when you see someone do something "stupid", or not responding quickly enough, or seeming to make no sense. That person could be struggling, and doing the best they can. The next time you want to shout at somebody, remember that they could be like Dardis.
I would like to propose a new Boss mob named Dardis, that inhabits FF and tries to kill diggers

Re: It is a SAD day on Atys!
This is very sad news.
I've recently returned to the game, now with a computer that can keep up. I had 3 names on my friendslist - Dardis was one of them. He used to let me CP for him and we spent long hours chatting. I've been hoping to see a check mark pop up next to his name.
I've got a whole slew of flags on my map of dig spots he took me to. I will rename them now.
Rest in peace.

It still amazes me how the name Dardis continues to carry on and all of you leaving your information is proof that his name will never cease to exist. A friend then and a memory now, this memory will be with me forever...

But just a whisper on the lips of homin kind,
But just a tale from the passer by,
Solo never got the honour of meeting such a prestigous character,
But loves the enthusiasm behind such valuable friends to give him a great send off.
In peace be with him!

I never met Dardis, but you and everyone else effected by his lose have my condolences and sympathy.
Re: It is a SAD day on Atys!
When choosing a game I read the reviews provided by various people, magazines, internet feedback etc,
I then look at the required spec when I decide to buy a game, I want to know the content, the setting, the visual presentation and sound.
Maybe I can take the opportunity to increase my machine spec at this time...always a good excuse .
When I finally arrive in the game my requirements have already been check listed and met.
I followed this process as I entered "The saga of Ryzom". Ingame I started to become confused and found a lot of people were very helpful and informative, It sounds odd, but I am not the most sociable person on the planet, and Like to login to relax and just watch the world around me..jumping into conversation/interaction with others before retreating to my little area of tranquility where I can just observe as I dig.
Over time I found myself answering simple questions in the universal channel. It's a nice feeling to provide useful information that clears away a little of the confusion.
The complex (to me) points of the game I could not understand I turned to the ingame support using "/who GM" , These folk were very helpful and informative, always asking me if I needed further explanation..one recent incident I remember clearly was the long delay between my question and response...he explained that his grandmother was having trouble with her DVD player...( I still chuckle as I imagine him attempting to explain the intricacies of a dvd player).
All these points alone mean nothing, I follow my usual checklist, the questions are answered, the information is passed to the relevant folk, I am looking forward to the next feature to be installed into Ryzom...until I read this thread...
This thread made me stop and think about all of the points here, I never knew Dardis, We will never meet.
But his presence allowed me to see I am part of a strong community. And that is what I will remember him for.
