Ehrrm... Magnetism? I always thought Zorai had the element electricity... Electricity is able to create electro-magnetic fields. Electricity, too, can be produced by biochemical processes. If the Zorai managed to master electricity, then it would be able to them to magnetize things...

Bizango, yes, iron is present in HUMAN bodies, besides traces of other metals. But I wouldn't think that it would be possible for a homin to have even traces of metals inside his body due to there total absence on Atys (yes, I know, the Karawan...). But that surely goes deep into biology

Good points, dpi209. Our Earth has a core of liquid iron that creates our planetary magnetic field. There are also deposits of iron ore, large to very small, with their own magnetic properties. What do we know about the core of Atys? That the there are a lot of Kipees and, the story of the dragon.

I did make the distinction that only the Karavan have *refined* metals. I still maintain that Atys likely has metals (atoms, not lumps of ore) in biologically useful quantities and that this may explain some phenomena.

I think another way to look at this is, Atysian technology by Human definition is still stone age. It wasn't very long ago on Earth that some aboriginal stone age cultures were first visited by great shiny birds that carried men in their bellies. Picture your Atysian self being like one of those aboriginals, presented with people and objects you don't understand.

Hmmm. Mastery of magnetism means we can look forward to railguns?

Or if we drop the role playing (since we're introducing our universes physical laws), we could just assume that that the content writers have about the same grasp of magnetism as the general public, i.e. almost none.

Magnetism doesn't depend on metals either. Anywhere electrical currents are flowing there are magnetic fields. I've seen plenty of lightning on Atys so magnetic fields are being created even if only for brief moments.

I know that Atys has deep layers of organic material but are we sure it is organic to the core? Is that actually written somewhere? I had envisioned a typical planet being buried deep beneath the organic layers. If that is the case Atys might have a molten iron core and Earth-like magnetic fields.

If it is organic to the core Atys must be enormous to have enough mass for its gravitational field. Since Homin bodies are very like Human bodies I would suggest it has something close to Earth's gravitational field.

Its obviously some sort of organic conductor in the blood. Humans have hemoglobin which is an iron based compound. Vulcans have copper in their blood. There must be some kind of organic metal in zorai. As for generating an electrical field, this can be done by a proper mixture of electrolytes in the system. if the blood had metals and the is circulated really fast, there would be a magnetic field that can be somewhat controled by speeding or slowing down the flow of blood.

Okay, before we criticize too deeply, remember the huge suspension of disbelief required to accept NON-PHYSICAL "ENERGY" THAT WE EMIT FROM OUR WRISTS, THAT DAMAGES THINGS DESPITE ITS NON-PHYSICALITY!

Not that I mind it, really. It's just that if we are to judge this game it should be on its mythological coherence, not on its scientific coherence. In many ways, it fails on both accounts, but it beats most games out there. Especially WoW. I don't know if any of you have experienced Warcraft mythology, either through WCII and III, or through the related "literature," but I can assure you it's bad. Real Bad. Battlestar Galactica had better writers.

It is actually a very biological phenomenon. Every living cell creates a voltage potential. An electrical field. When an electrical field encounters certain elements it has the force known as magnetism.

While iron and other magnetic elements might not be known in their ore forms, they should most certainly be available in biological forms. Whatever the form, it can be refined.

I would like to point out something and make it very clear:

ZORAI are NOT native to Atys!!!! No Homin is native to Atys. The fact here is, wherever we CAME from could very well have been an ironrich planet and there could be some little magnetothingies inside each of us.

Oh yeah...

We are NOT native to Atys - so any reason why Zorai COULDN'T have a personal magnetism based on that assumption, is hereby proven false.
