Unlike SWG ryzom doesnt have like 15 servers, so more time can be spent on the 3 servers it does have. Each one gets plenty of TLC and there is (if you have u game configured) vitrtualy no lag :)

Unlike SWG ryzom is skills bassed. so yes the more you use a skil the better you are at it. but theres no such thing as a "level 90" (where you have leveled as far as you can go) there are lots of seperate skill 2tress" thet branch out into more refined skills. ultimaltly ending up at level 250.

Say if you want to be a melee you can complete one melee skill at level 250, lets say 2Handed sword. but that still leaves 2handed axe 2handed pike 2 handed mace as well as 1 handed skills. and close combat. - Theres plenty to keep you going.

SWG used to be skill based as well before SOE destroyed it.
Ryzom is pretty much like CU SWG - it is skill based but there is also a level that you can see.

Anyway, Ryzom is very complex and subtle, if you liked the SWG of old it's very likely that you'll love Ryzom.
The game is also virtually bug free and has excellent customer support. Steep learning curve though, make sure to do all missions on newbie island, they are a very good tutorial and an introduction to the game lore.

I have played SWG a long long time ago, where there weren't to much Jedis but instead you had those master TKA and combat medic that would level a full army.

I play now Ryzom for a good month.

My comparison on the skillbased system is:
In SWG you had skillpoints you could spend to buy a box (set of skills). To be able to buy the next box you had to gather enough xp in that area and the free skillpoints. Each box had a few new skills or upgrades to previous gained skills.

Ryzom how ever uses a more levelbased system combined with skills. You will gain xp in the branch of wich the skill is in. Once you gain a level you get 10 skillpoints to buy new skills/upgrades or simple stanzas. That is what I like the most, the stanzas. It opens up a lot of finetuning for yourself and your playstyle. Also SP aren't limited that low, so theorical you can get every stanza that there is in the game.

But enough of comparisons now, welcome to Atys and enjoy your stay :)

Welcome to the game green319. There are definit similarities (skill system, player crafting economy) between old SWG and Ryzom but differeances as well (no player cities or CH) but Ryzom also comes with its own strengths (customer serivce is excellent and a better community IMO). Not everyone that liked old SWG likes Ryzom but if you focus on the good parts and get into them and don't focus on the differeances then I think there is a very good chance you will enjoy the game. Anyway good luck and have fun!

Qfe for all posts in this thread, but I must add there are no entertainers in this game. I have heard roumor that we might be getting a Ch type tree if the Ring brings enough new players just a roumor though. :D Again Welcome to Atys! I played SWG for 34 months and quit last month to come here full time because this game is far superior to the Abortion that they have now! The communty here is far superior here a well IMO! Everyone is so helpful and good spirited. So if you have questions don't hesitate to ask away! :D
