Playing SoR on dial-up?

Post by yorgl »

Is it even possible?

Ok, here is the senario. My brother and I played SoR when it was released back in 04' and while we both had disconnect issures, his were much worse. That was back when we on Windermeer, I was on cable and he was on dial-up (he lives out in the boonies).

Fast foward about 2 years. I'm back playing and he is thinking about it, but after I told him about the server consolidation, he thinks that if it was bad when we had a server here( like every 5 min, basically unplayable), it's gonna be ALOT worse than it was if he is trying to connect accross the pond. For me, I have not had the disconnect problems we both had originally, but I have no way of knowing if dial-up is going to be remotely viable on a server that is a ocean away. If anyone has any exp on this, your input would be appreciated.

Thankie ;)

Quite possible. I know someone on dial-up who always outran me (until I got a better video card and switched to Linux).

The disconnect issue was probably due to a router, if you had one.

As far as I know, playing on dial-up has no known problems, but patching the client may be very time consuming.

Dial-up does not have any disconnect issues unless it is a really bad connection. This is also true for broadband. I was on dial-up for my first 15 months and I have always been 'across the pond' from Arispotle. I have been lucky in that I have always had good clean connections on both dial-up and on DSL. The ping rates were/are in the 400 range for both.
