Not really a 'refugee' from SWG, as I still have a current account. I've been playing as an entertainer in SWG since launch - one of a few 'all-ATK' entertainers. I am Fariah Lightstar on Starsider and I used to play Bilca Lightstar on Tempest.

For me, SWG was my first MMOG, but I've played the following games in the past:

Lineage II was my second MMOG. I only played it for about three months, but it was a nicely balanced game. No entertainer content though - it was just a grind-fest.

I tried City of Heroes for about a week - couldn't stand it. There just wasn't enough customization (I wanted to be one of the 'Mystery Men' but the game is geared towards the standard comic book superhero). Also, no entertainer content.

Although I disliked CoH I thought CoV might be worth a try because of the villain lairs, but I lost interest after killing my 2653rd rat. Too much grind, not enough depth. No taverns, no entertainers.

Then I tried Everquest II. It took just a few days for me to tire of that. No player houses - no entertainer content. Another all-grind and no depth game.

Tried Guild Wars - absolutely hated everything about it. The world looks dead and depressing. Altogether a waste of time and money for me, even though it has no monthly fee. Again, no entertainers.

Then EVE Online. I lasted about a week. There is nothing to do in that game but trade or fight. You don't even get to walk around space stations. I just felt that my character must be filthy - being stuck in a pod forever, fed by intravenous tubes, and, yet again, no entertainer content.

I thought about giving Matrix Online a go - apparently they have thriving nightclub scene, but I was frightened off by the bug reports on the Matrix Online forums, and by the fact that it's another SOE game. I'd like to hear what others think of it.

I also briefly considered WoW. I know, I know, but I heard that there was more in the way of non-combat emotes, depth in terms of sitting and eating etc., and that there's some dancing in the game. But I don't know if it's true, so I gave up on that idea because... well because it's WoW.

Considered Planetside for about five minutes until I found out that it's all PvP. No thanks.

I also considered Second Life - a pure sandbox game, but no musician content and the graphics put me off. Plus the fact that it looks incredibly complicated.

So anyway, two weeks ago I downloaded Saga of Ryzom. Lots of depth - a very intriguing backstory, nicely balanced combat and more of a sandbox game in terms of your character's abilities - kinda like SWG used to be before the NGE. Unfortunately we only get to do one dance move that lasts about 4 seconds. It has nice graphics (better than SWG by a lot) and it feels a lot like the good parts of Lineage II but with much more than just the grind. I haven't left the free trial island yet, but I'm hoping for a bit more of the community feeling that the SWG cantina gave during the times when it wasn't packed with AFKers or hologrinders.

What the future holds I don't know. I'm looking at Lord of the Rings Online and hoping that the minstrel class will satisfy my need for musical content. I'm also looking at Africa Online which definitely will have a lot of musical content, and Star Trek Online too, but both of those are far in the future.

dont hold out much hope for the matrix online nightclubs, apparently they were really active at launch with big guest dj`s and such, but everytime i went to one found it empty even on weekend nights. Lord of the Rings could be interesting as an entertainer given the setting/community feeling of the hobbits, etc. Maybee they`l let you host firework displays and music in the the Green Dragon. :)

Sorry to hear Ryzom may not have what you are looking for, it would be great to have some entertainer element/music creation ability, i believe it was once planned for the game. *looks at Africa Online* first time I`d heard of it :)

I'm having a go at combat in this game because I like the game's backstory so much, so I'm giving it a try despite the fact that combat and crafting aren't usually my cup of tea. I'm going to give the mainland a try in the next few days and if I can find any reason to stick around that doesn't involve the tired old raison d'etre of killing animals or mass murder, I will.

Unfortunately we only get to do one dance move that lasts about 4 seconds.
You might have 115 moves if you factor in creative use of spells.

7 base affliction
7 base elemental
1 base heal (three types but all have basically the same animation)
49 possible affliction/elemental combinations using Atysian Afflicting Missile stanza
49 possible elemental/elemental combinations using Atysian Double Missile stanza
2 useful emotes (at least - /dance and /casual)
Jelathnia, Kasarinia, KianShi, Maethro, ShuaLi, and OPaxie (Arispotle)
TeiJeng (Leanon)

Sweet, and another SWG refugee joins the fray, me that is. lol I am an SWG vet of just about 3 years now, I also spent a good deal of time before SWG playing Freelancer online, so i am no stranger to online gaming or MMORPG's. I have heard a lot of comments about ryzom all good so I decided to come and check it out. I am so looking forward to getting into the game, because from what I have read it has a fantastic skill system that is just what I fancy. The harvest and craft skills really look to my taste, but the great thing is I don't have to be a dependant crafter here like I was on SWG (Thanks NGE for taking away the freedom to do anything alone). Well thanks for giving me the space to rant, see everyone in game.

Well might sound redundant but, you'll find alot of us older vets here, some since the CU and alot more from the NGE fiasco. Hope ya have fun here and do alot more then just grind away lvls as fast as ya can.

And another. I was Master Creature Handler/Master Bio Engineer on Starsider. I was in a guild, but don't remember the name of it. Heh.

I left at the first CU as well, came back right before the NGE was released and didn't like it. Many of my pets had been nerfed or were no longer even callable. Then the NGE hit and BOTH my professions were wiped out. Needless to say, I quit the same day.

Since then, I played WoW for about 8 or 9 months, then EVE for a few months, EQ2 for a month or so, with a smattering of free trials for other games. Most recently Lineage 2, but not liking the bot plague or the mindless grind quest to get up to a level that would produce something akin to having fun.

So here I am, and really liking it so far. :)

I don't know if you are a roleplayer but if you are, there are several very good RP guilds that will give you lots of non-combat stuff to do.

I played SWg religiously way back when, but since SoE crapped it I quit a long time ago. I was a Defence stacker :) but I also tried TKM/MD and a lot of others. I played on SS the "unofficial" RP server. I stiil check on from time to time but none of my friends are ever on.

I wouldn't mind hanging out with some other SWG fellas and gals. I'm patching it as we speak so I'll leave my Ch name here :)
