Ryzom Ring - Basic Question....

Post by rascal21 »

I'm really wondering what a map editor can add to a MMORPG....i mean this stuff is cool for "intranet RPG" such as NWN, but I don't see the point of such an add-on in a persistant world(???).....actually I haven't made a lot of research on it , so I may have misunderstood the use for it...(couldn't find any specific R² forum)

Is there anything I don't see?....

It opens a lot of possibilities. A guild for instance can create a trialdungeon before you could join them or promotion. Also you can create custom scenarios for your guildevents. It also enables people that love to create scenarios to make them available for other players, meaning less dev input needed for new content.

Player-created scenarios are still subject to dev approval, and probably dev testing as well, before release to the playing public. If the devs receive dozens of submissions per month that could possibly take away development time....

If I undertand you it means every scenario created with the ring won't be available to share with friends untill the devs have approved it and tested? As far as I have found info about the ring this isn't the case. And even if they do that it is still less time invested then building new content from scratch.

The real benefit, in my humble opinion, of R2 is that it was designed to allow developers an easier way to create new content for players. We're getting a watered down version as a wonderful, entertaining, and extremely easy to use expansion allowing us to make our own content.

R2 won't take away from development time, but rather give more time to development.

No, that isn't the case.

The way it was explained to use before is that there will be two (three) levels of participation.

Anyone can make or host a scenario of any nature without approval but there won't be much/anything in the way of gains from it.

If you want to make more official ones with normal gains etc from it, that's subject to stricter rules and approval.

And then there will, eventually, be the hosting package offered so your scenarios can be hosted for you.

Protecting a herd/tribe would be doable.
Mats for a new building I don't see as possible just yet though you could bodge a village being created by the trade of a special item. I THINK.

Uhm, it´s here for not one whole day, how should we know a "typical example"??? *LOL* (Maybe you ask in a few years again :D )
But, well it could be anything ranging from "rescue the princess", to puzzle your way through "the Visions of an Elder", or whatever YOU want it to be.

YOU create what you like :)

I just wanted to add, Ryzom Ring is not a "map editor". You can't technically create a map yet. You can use existing predefined land masses and populate them with content.

This is not your typical FPS map editor where you cleverly place mobs behind doors that open when you walk by... there is much, much more to it.
