Well homins are a bit like humans... clothing is not only a matter of what fits the purpose, one also likes to express a certain personal style with the clothes you wear, dont you? otherwise all humans would run around in uniformal clothing too
so yes, i'd love to see some social armor in Ryzom, and also a wider choice of racial armor, too. I think it would also be nice if the mats used would actually give the armor piece a slightly different look, i cant understand why an armor piece made of dug fiber should look the same as one made of boss hide... but i guess that wil have to wait for "Saga of Ryzom 2 - the deeper roots" or so =)

Re: Why the desire for clothing?
It's because a lot of SWG players are arriving and finding how unique SWG really was....I used to know a lot of players who were tailors, and of course there were creature handlers, traders, entertainers, bio engineers, chefs...over time I am sure more of these requests will be heard on the forum.katriell wrote:I've seen people suggest "non-armor clothing options" many times. Light hats, and maybe cloaks and such, I can understand. But beyond that...light armor and perhaps medium armor serve perfectly as clothing. So I don't see what the fuss is about?
Experience is essential.....Wisdom is priceless.
Re: Why the desire for clothing?
Well, I'm not a heavy roleplayer, and I've always been most interested in the stats of my armor than the looks (to a certain degree). However, As an MA lover, I have several sets in my appartment, and when I go out hunting, I find myself saying "Hmmm the red Matis or the blue Tryker one" more often than not. (just an example, i have like 10 different sets of medium standing by when I want to hunt ) Having additional styles, or hats and the like, would only make it harder for me... but I'd still like to have more options
I'm more in favor of increasing the amount of patterns there are for the current armors, rather than adding entirely new concepts such as fashion clothing... but LA and MA "helmets" (like, a hard-hat for MA and some sort of baseball cap for LA) would be a nice addition.
That ofcourse means heads would never be unprotected anymore, but would that be so bad? I mean, if youre gonna wear medium armor anyway (decent protection) would you leave your head completely unexposed? Same with light... after all, the head is a very vulnerable spot, every little bit of protection you can get on it would help I'm sure...

Agreed. I wear MA, and I'd love to put some protection on my head other than the HA organic stove I encase my head in now.

I personally think head gear should offer no proection (or stat boost) unless it is a heavy helmet. I used to be in favor of MA helms but realized everyone would wear one, 4% malus is nothing. I think it is approriate and important for harvesters and mages to have a weak spot. Anythting tthat truly protects their head would greatly hinder their concentration on casting and harvesting.
Let them wear a no malus but no protection hat for fashion or ante up and take the full heavy helmet if they find it so important to be protected.
It would be too much boost to open up the helmet slot to harvesters and mages.
On a side note, if a whole new line of armor designs were to be released, I would love to see the new heavy helmets be open-face style

Re: Why the desire for clothing?
On the contrary, medium style armor usually does offer some options for head protection (in other games, and throughout history), though not as effective as heavy armor would be. A medium armor helm offering the same percentage of protection the rest of the medium armor (compared to heavy) doesn't seem to me as unreasonable. It actually seems somewhat odd that MA head gear doesn't exist.
As for light armor, I do not see a cloth hat offering more protection that a full head of hair, so I offer no argument to such offering no damage absorbtion.
Of course... I am not "up in arms" over the whole idea. I simply feel that it would be nice. It's unfortunate that I would need to wear a helm which doesn't match the rest of my armor to protect my brain-sling. Heck, I wouldn't mind if the MA helm had the same penalties/bonuses as a HA helm, so long as it actually looks decent.

I'm not oppoesd to the concept, just the balance it would upset. Now harvesters and mages don't wear helmets because the malus is unreasonable to perform in, so they have an empty armor slot. Offer a medium armor helmet that can give them +125 HP AND +125 any other stat they want (at Q250) and it will become standard at a mere 4% action malus. Now all the mages and diggers are running around with more HP and more protection, and its not needed. Will just make the game easier.rothimar wrote: A medium armor helm offering the same percentage of protection the rest of the medium armor (compared to heavy) doesn't seem to me as unreasonable. Keep it to non-functional fashion pieces (and more styles of regular heavy helms), please

Well, I certainly wouldn't want to see the game unbalanced.

You are not stuck. Almost every day I set out to silently prove that unique mixes of armor are possible, and I do. Have you ever seen someone wearing beige Matis MQ HA boots and pants, Fyros LQ MA sleeves, and Tryker HQ LA vest and gloves? If im stuck in the same armour day in day out becomes rather tedious and bland.
Their fault. If they wanted to look unique, they could.i see way to many toons walking around with the same stuff on
Sorry...I prefer self-help over asking the developers to invest massive art work, plus modelling, animation, debugging, and integration work, into dozens or hundreds more armor pieces. :/
And, Mrsno, I know you agree about "letting the devs focus on other parts of the game." I'm just...well, attacking what is expressed in those two quotes.

Feel free to attack me, those quotes - I didn't make my self clear either, I already have chosen my outfit, as described earlier, when I walk into town ill change my outfit, which consists of Zorai HQ LA sleeves, boots and gloves.. with Tryker HQ MA Pants with Fyros HQ MA Body. So, I already done as you suggest. Thats if i was out in HA or something, but normally i walk around in the above anyhoo.katriell wrote:You are not stuck. I was just stating the fact so many people walk around in the same clothes, having differences in colours would, perhaps negate this.. but /shrug, I look good =D
