Why the desire for clothing?

Post by katriell »

I've seen people suggest "non-armor clothing options" many times. Light hats, and maybe cloaks and such, I can understand. But beyond that...light armor and perhaps medium armor serve perfectly as clothing. So I don't see what the fuss is about?

I think adding things in game that have no real "utility" like armor would spice up the enviorment some. Like the candy cane, something that really has no use other than being unique, and festive.

I don't need dress-up cloths to play, but wouldnt it be cool to wear a tux of sorts, and wedding gown when getting married? I guess you can use the current patterns, but... but.. but... it would still be nice.

Granted, this isn't something on the top of my priority list.. i think the dev's time could be spent better elsewhere.... soon(tm).. but still, its a fun thought to consider.

Think about it, swimming suits for the beach, yes we can strip down to our undies, but some people have a desire for a little more modesty! :)

Non-armor clothing only really has a use as an Rp prop. As such I would be surprised if Rpers would be against having non-armor clothing.

Mmm well I still have that pre-order shield, and the only use I found for it till now was during a Trek through PR:

(PS.Do I have to point u to the fact that if I lead a trek U WILL run into a certain death and U WILL get lost? :D )

I'm a roleplayer, and of course I'm not against it, but I still don't see a point. :p

"Refugee rags" are great for swimwear, by the way.

I guess the point is, at which level does someone what to roleplay.

I.e Wear clothes around town then slip on your armor for a country stroll.

But ofc if it comes down to the old arguement, but the devs would be better off doing something else, then yes it would have a very low priority.

I think everyone, even non-RPers, want more variety in their appearance.
I'm not saying we don't have a lot now, but more options would be welcomed by all(as long as it stays true to Ryzom style, of course)

There should be accessories that are non functional (no protection, no boosts):
Hats
Capes
Cloaks
Sashes
etc

One civ style of each (that materials determine the color of) would be lovely. And the ability to add guild or other logos would be to die for!

In addition to that I would be ecstatic to see a new style of every armor type we already have.
Meaning, new Tryker medium armor, LQ, MQ, HQ, takes same mats, with identical stats to what we have now, but just new skins. And repeat that for Tryker light and heavy, and all the other civs, etc.

Mixing and matching should give plenty of variety to create your own Atysian tuxedo or bathing suit or whatever.

Then we're back to the argument that light armor is just like clothes. If they took the protection factor, dodge bonus, and Max vs. Damage numbers off any piece of light armor, it would instantly pass as clothes, wouldn't it?

I would love to be able to wear a guild symbol.

Another thought...note the culture of homins. Everyone fights, or fuels fighting with their tradeskills. Atys is a rough world, vastly unlike most familiar parts of Earth. There is almost no barrier between city and wilderness (except in the case of Pyr, where they've made adobe floors and walls to keep the nature out). And when hordes of kitin could invade at any time, I'm not surprised a homin would want to have some protective clothing on at all times, and the idea of useless clothing wouldn't occur to them.
