Armor Type Questions

Post by chris641 »

New player here...

I am working on a melee based character and I am trying to understand how the armor system works in Ryzom. I am hoping someone could entertain a few questions for me :)

First, when browsing an armor list at an NPC seller, the armors have "racial types" listed in their info screens. It seems as if one can wear any race's armor (ie a Tryker can wear Matis branded armor) but is there any advantage/disadvantage to doing so?

Second, the "look" of the armor is very important to me... is there any way to see what an armor piece will look like before buying it an equiping it? A website, game utility (ala WOW's dressing room feature), anything?

BTW, I love the look of most of the armor pieces in the game so far ( I am still on noobie island). The only one I havent liked is the heavy armor helmets.

Thanks in advance,
Bohannon

Yes you can wear any race's armour and there are no advantages to them. The only difference is how they look. If made from the same mats, they would have exactly the same stats.

The Ballistic Mystix site has a dressing room but has been having problems of late: http://ballisticmystix.com

Armour in ryzom is 99% player crafted so the differances between them all are based on the materials used and not on the race. however there 3 different types of armour.

Light- god for casting in and digging as it has no action malus. it has no base hp boost so any extra hp boost is player crafted (so a ql 100 item can have up to 50 hp)

medium- good for mage tanking, ranged fighting, and looking cool in. protection is bit better than light armour but there is a small action malus. however as standard each pice comes with hp boost of half the quality of the item on top of the player crafted boost (so a ql 100 item can have 100hp on it)

heavy- good for mele tanking. has a large action malus on it so only good for mele. much higher protection and each pice has hp boost of the quality of the item on top of player crafted boost (so a ql 100 item has up to 150 hp on it)

*note the player crafted boosts can be sap stam or focus aswell i just used hp as an example

each race and armour type has 3 levels of plans, basic, medium, high, the high quality is more durable and looks more shiney :)
