Nor should there be. I couldn't agree more. Part of the problem IMHO is that things ARE too easy for new players - "not like in the good old days".
Seriously though, it's not a show stopper and you can all join the same guild and chat in there until you meet up. I had a similar problem when I first started way back at retail. I had made friends in beta who all went Matis while I went Fyros. So for quite a while, I couldn't play or chat with my friends until they got across and tagged me, then trekked me to Matis.
So newer players have it easier than I did with the new distance invite command.
Bottom line is this game gives you nothing on a plate (except maybe XP with the cats :rolleyes
. However, if you're prepared to work and also seek help, you can achieve anything.
