Very slow to connect

Come in, pull up a chair, let's discuss all things Ryzom-related.

To add to the tech babble...

i got Ryzom runing on 2 comps:

Desktop with 3.02 GHz, 2 Gig of Ram, nVidia 6800GT, Board about 3 years old
1280x1024px

Laptop 2Ghz, Mobility Radeon 9000, 2 Gig RAM (Yes, my boss is somtimes nice to us) 1400x1050px

16gbit DSL connect on both

Ryzom runs *waaaay* nicer on the Laptop. Same framerate with full graphcs plus sound as on desktop with everyting tuned down/switched off. Plus i can watch TV when playin on the laptop. I even can play nicely on the laptop over an UMTS card. (Business travels suddenly dont suck as bad any more)

so it isnt the connect alone, nor the pure muscles... i guess a well balanced system is the key.

BTW, if you got an external disk with USB 2.0 or similar, its worth trying to run the game from there. Ryzom base dir can just be copied to any folder you wish and get started usin the lauch.bat file. It takes load from the C: drive which can then be used by windows for swapping.

The best way I found to reduce load times is to set textures to Low, that helps the most and you can still set other graphics settings higher. Your system will just have less to preload.

Hehe I used to have that problem until I got my internet upgraded (VERY FAST!) it now takes about half a min to load, however I get serious lag-fest because I neeeeeeeed my PC upgrading. If I was you, I'd do both!

(I know how seriously annoying this is if you're a kid and your dad is all like: OMG NOT YET! Wait until we get all the parts! curse having 6+ computers in the house)
