Permanently fouling up a character?

Post by cugrad »

I just started Ryzom. I actually bought it when it first came out, didn't like it (I was still missing SWG at that point) and threw away the CD's. Now I am giving it another shot w/ the free trial. The promise of the upcoming user created content was what caught my attention.

My question is (and forgive me if I use incorrect nomenclature): can I permanently screw up a character by purchasing the wrong trainings? I know you get points to spend when you go up in a level, but you are capped at level 250. So, do the number of points you accumulate allow you to purchase everything in those trees? If not, is it possible to end up not being able to buy your high level skills, or being gimped on stats, because you made your purchases unintelligently? Thanks.

It's really hard to screw up a character build. You can slow yourself down a bit or make things hard during the lower levels, but it will eventually level itself out. There are multiple branches to each tree, so 250 only represents a cap in each branch. For example, at level 50, foraging branches by land type (forest, lakes, desert, jungle and prime roots). That means you can earn a total of 1050 levels amongst all 5 branches if you work at it long enough. Way more skill points than you could ever spend.

No, you can't. At most, inconvenience, slow progressing, etc. There are bad choices, but nothing really really permanent. That said, it's a good idea to ask for advice.

I know you get points to spend when you go up in a level, but you are capped at level 250.
Yes, but there are a lot of branches, the 4 main ones branch and specialize.. around 40 total.
So, do the number of points you accumulate allow you to purchase everything in those trees? If not, is it possible to end up not being able to buy your high level skills, or being gimped on stats, because you made your purchases unintelligently? Thanks.
Depends how much you play. Leveling one tree only is usually not enough, but you can buy all trees, with time, and you'll end up having tons of unused points (you can have thousands of sp in each 'art' after some time playing seriously, numbers can go up to 10000 unused fight Sps, 6000 harvest sps, etc. depending on your choices.).

So:

* you can, with time, buy everything
* you cannot permanently gimp your toon
* better ask advice to be sure.
* crafting sps are scarce, specially at the beginning, with a lot of things to buy (bonuses, skills, racial patterns, upgrades). Be carefull here

I was interested in reading this too, thanks for the info! I kept thinking I made bad purchases but glad to know it levels out.

Kindest regards,
