Yes, I am a wuss.
I subscribed to Ryzom 5 days ago and I arrived five days ago, where my friend from the training island (of whom had left weeks before me) pmed me and arranged for me to join her guild. Naturally I jumped for joy, but when I found out it was a Fyros guild (with the exception of two Zorai, a matis and me) and I now need to migrate to the desert.
I made an attempt to solo it, but I failed... Apparantly I got exceptionally far which makes me feel good though =D

Re: Escourt
Hehe, remember the old days:
My first attempt to reach Fyros from Matys took me over 5 hours (we were 3 trying in turn to sneak there solo).
I cannot remember how many time i got maxi DP from there lol.
Tho, this is part of the fun in this game: exploring solo, going around packs of aggros, discovering new areas...
If you do and meet a new mob, do not hesitate to ask in Universal chat or guild chat: "Is xxxx aggro?"
But if you need an escort, would be good to state in which continent you are..

Re: Escourt
The days of discovery for us old timers were great... Hidden Source is a challenge for sure for lower level folks... I can remember fondly way back when Ambika was trying to join the guild from Fyros... I met her at the TP and we ventured forth south thru HS... Many many challenges and I felt a sense of accomplishment when she finally saw the proud city of Yrkanis.gillest wrote:Hehe, remember the old days:

This is a game of discovery, and the power gamers miss that... Our lands can be crossed easier with knowledge than with brawn, knowledge is the challenge.

Re: Escourt
i notice many veterans make the mistake to think trekking solo is as easy for new members as it is for them with a low level toon... it still takes a lot of skill, you have to know the mobs and their behavior, the tribes, judge the aggro range, know the safe paths and so on - things we do intuitively are not easy for young homins at all... i could possibly trek a lvl 1 toon from Dyron to Zora easily solo (especially wth the ramp at desertstock populated with Kipees as it was before last server reset.. but for a newcomer the Trek from Pyr to Oflovaks might be a challenge to big
i recommend to continue to ask in region (maybe not every other minute lol) or just watch region chat for announcements, especially on weekends evenings (GMT).
I also ask veterans who organize treks to announce that in region at start time, too, if you have slots free in your teams!
Not only there might be unguilded newcomers who appreciate, i feel it adds a nice RP feeling to treks, it always makes me feel as if i was a journeyman starting a karavan to the mystical city of samarkand - who knows what marvels and dangers one might encounter

*darn, i wish i had been here at beta... would have loved to trek when here were no 5 AoDs on the planet to nuke the way free

Re: Escourt
That's is what DT and I were saying, at the time i was not even 100 melee with low HP and i met mobs which I never had seen before.
Obviously is easy to get taxi'd by high levels but it takes all the fun out of it: you are just spectator, you do not take part in the story by creating your own.
The desert part of matis was hell to cross at the time and as you said, we did not know the passes, the mobs and the different AI patterns:
*guild chat:
Me: is Kipucka aggro?
Guildees: Not sure..
Me (dead): Yes it is *
But when u reach the portal to fyros lands after countless deaths, the feeling of accomplishment is so great ...
So i really think it is at low lvls that players should try trek solo : after when you know everything, the fun is not as good as then

Re: Escourt
can't agree more with the above. I'm as guilty as anyone of trekking newbies around these days, but back in the day we used to spend weeks with 6 or more us in a team moving very, very slowly across Haven of Purity, someone out front as a scout, rest of us huddled together getting a little further each time, having no idea where we were going or what was aggro, was great
if you can find a bunch of low level people try and do treks like that, it will be painful and tricky and involve much death but you accomplish so much more.

Re: Escourt
Yes I believe i've already stated my location, lakelands, and my destination, desert, I also have said that I attempted to cross solo, but got hopelessly trapped at the Tupile trade post, and I failed.

Tho Tupile trade post is already quite an achievement , you should keep trying.
Don't mind the DP: once your at maxi u can't go higher lol and is very fast to clear at low lvls
And maybe ask in Fairhaven in region, you might find some other low lvls who want to join the adventure ...

Re: Escourt
Uhm, strange that your new guild won´t help you though?
Well, but yes, those were the times. I sometimes try to trek noobis by myself through hostile territory and it still gives me that "sense of accomblishment" when we reach our destination, even if I´m a 228 Mage.
I always try not to shoot anything unless there´s no other way around it, or it doesn´t aggro on us. I take my time to teach the new ones the skills necessary to realy "survive" on Atys.
Some don´t apprechiate it and are impatient, but most like it that way because they realise that I´m trying to make them independet from us "highups"
So, just keep on trekking. No Risk, no Fun!!
