Greetings Everyone,
Please forgive me for asking this, but I am currently in the market for a new MMO and this game came as a recommendation to me by some friends. I've been testing a few games here and there and found that I liked the new user experience more then the actual meat of the game as it is common that tutorials one encounters when they first start an MMO are very different from the actual nature of the game itself.
My biggest question is how soloable is this title? I am a very casual player due to a busy work schedule so I prefer games where I can log in at my leasure and progress at my own pace. I am not against group based content but I avoid games like EQ1 where groups are enforced nearly all of the time.

Test the noob island for free, and if you like, then buy. I'm doing this.tegashi wrote:Greetings Everyone,

Re: Thinking of purchasing and have a few questions
I do like the game so far but as I stated earlier, the noob experiences often differ from the 'real' game quite extensively if not almost completely. My main question goes out to those beyond the newb area since they'll have more insight on what I am asking. Thanks for your response though.
Re: Thinking of purchasing and have a few questions
The game is pretty decent solo, though grouping will definitely get you faster xp. I have played mostly solo due to some odd hours with work lately and some projects that have been hounding me at home. I personally prefer a game that offers me solo and group play without sacrificing much in either, and Ryzom certainly seems to fit the bill for me so far.
Mainland is a bit different than the trial isle... but it is a load of fun! If you make it to mainland (and go Matis), look me up... I'll show you a few good spots for solo hunting.

You are most welcome! I have to say, the game is impressive in both look, feel, and gameplay. I have some feature feedback I am going to post, but all in all, I love it.

Yeah the game is soloable in my opinion, most skills anyway, obviously you'd have a hard time levelling heal without someone to heal.
The mainland differs from the new island in so far as it is not quest based. So dont expect to come to mainland and run a billion quests for levels and items. Its not like that at all. The majority of quests youll find are related to your fame with different races, which in turn effect the teleports that you can buy.

One thing I really like about the game is that you don't pick a "class" to play. You can be a mage, tanker, healer, digger, crafter, etc, and all at the same time! Some skills can be high and others low. For example, I have over level 100 in both melee and healing, but am below 50 in range. I tend to use range to shoot stuff when I solo, and craft my own weapons and ammo.
In a team setting, I usually heal or melee fight. So yes, the game can be solo'd for some skills.
There are some high-level mobs that you probably will have to have a team to beat; and PvP is mainly team oriented, of course. So teaming is a good thing. However, solo is also fun, so I think the game is well rounded.
