Hello fellow homins,
Just to introduce myself, I started playing SoR quite a long time ago with my brother but we had to leave the world of Atys due to personal issues with the dreaded "RL".
We am now returning, but have discovered that the world we once knew has changed greatly.
After talking to some friends we made long ago, that are still here, I was informend of the situation on Atys regarding Outposts.
Now maybe this post is in vain, and I'll just have to deal with it... but it seems that there is a huge imbalance. The karavan outnumber the kami greatly, and according to the OP list, the Kami own 6 of the 28 OP's. (according to the info I was given on which guilds are of what faction).
So it would seem that whenever an OP battle takes place, the Karavan always win. Thus the stronger only get stronger, as the Kami get frustrated and leave, or chose not to fight due to the absurdity of the odds against them. I was told that many friends in game were lost due to this OP imbalance and the fighting that has ensued.
New players discover this, and many want a sure footing in their new game, and go with the "big dog" karavan so they can benefit from the OP rewards. There may be few who side with the kami knowing about the OP situation, but as we can see, Karavan is only getting stronger.
This imbalance has turned into a vicious cycle, where one side will only get stronger at the expense of the other side getting weaker. There is no honor in this. There is no challenge in this. The only solution is for more Kami to come back, or sign up, or more karavan leave, or side with Kami... but why would anyone do that?
Anyway, I dont have a solution. I'm just a bit frustrated as an older player (still very new to the game though) and have to make a decison of leaving my homeland and people in order to benefit from the "new content" to the game, or just deal with not having or participating in those new benefits.
I dont want to whine or squabble, just share the frustration I am having.
Any suggestions?

Re: Vicious Cycle? - OP concern
I will supply you with a short answer, being that I must rush back to class.
The Kami and Karavan numbers seem to be more equal that what is admitted, tho the Kami seem not to bother that much with outposts. Infact, just the other day there was an outpost battle and all but one Kami showed up. However, a month or so ago, Kami overwhelmingly took over another outpost, if memory serves right (as I wasnt there in person). So its not really an issue of balancing, its an issue of dedication.
But either way, all content is good and effects everyone, so participate!

Re: Vicious Cycle? - OP concern
The solution? Make friends, You'll find friends will benefit you more than any OP and with Ryzom's community it shouldn't be that hard. It was obvious before the OP started that one side would win more than the other whether it be due to numbers or dedication. There was a time when Kami had more OP, correct everyone? For me, the OP aren't why I play Ryzom, but that's another story.
P.S. Another solution? GMs re-roll all the oupost!

Re: Vicious Cycle? - OP concern
This has been noted before, and you're absolutely correct.
The problem is partially an imbalance (too many Matis) but it is also a difference in the gamer demographic attracted to each faction with, seemingly, the more aggressive and goal/achievement/PvP players tending to be more attracted to the Karavan side and the more community/construction/PvE players tending to be attracted to the Kami side.

Re: Vicious Cycle? - OP concern
the solution, stay true to your roots, grow strong and encourage your friends to take part in op battles. This isnt aimed at you but ppl who give up/switch faction just to be on the winning side are not doing anyone any favours
things lost can be won again.

Re: Vicious Cycle? - OP concern
It should be noted that owning an OP is not the only way to benefit from OP resources. There are people (like me) who will eagerly fill bags with crystals and flowers.

Re: Vicious Cycle? - OP concern
Bah, don't be discouraged because of those pesky Karavaneers.
They may outnumber us 3:1 but so do the yubos wandering at our feet.
Quality vs Quantity my friend. Just think of it this way, it takes 3 Karavan to match one Kami
What goes up, must come down. The Karavan will see the might of The Dragon soon enough. And Ma-Duk will bless the Faithful. Fear not, and be steadfast.
/ooc Wow, thats the most RP i've done in a long while. kinda exciting Oh and no offense to all my Karavan friends
