Don't let the start of the game drive you away from it.

The beginnings are always hard but if you stick to it, you will really enjoy it.

Population depend of region and time periods: zorai is often kind of empty as example.
Best think to do is to join a guild, then the game becomes much easier: the mainlands are huge with a lot of different area (5) per 50 lvls. most players come to lvl 50 area to be in town and craft but do not stay very long.

Guild will allow you to know where ppl are and make the game much more fun

The best thing to do is remember the lessons of the tutorial area. Lesson #1 was that, to find a group of similar players with similar goals (such as doing a the Arken quest) you needed to ask in Regional chat. The same rule applies on the mainland. If you want to get together with some level 50-ish players, ask in regional chat.

It may seem empty but a /who will usually show you a large # of people. Not all of them will be 50 of course, but some will be, and will also be in your region. Don't be shy... pipe up in Regional chat and ask... e.g., "Hi, level 50 offensive magic here, looking to do some hunting. Anyone interested?" Bet you'll get nibbles quite frequently.

You don't need to stay with one guild. I'm sure they understand if you find them too highlevel and want to change to a guild with more players in the 50s. The guilds could either recruit more new players so you're a group of similar levels, or make a few guildhunts using lowerlevel skills. A good guildhunt would make 10s of levels, or more with XP crystals.

Remember that you, new off the isle, knows the other newcomers best and would make a terrific recruiter for your guild.

And welcome to Yrkanis :)

Starting out was lonely for me too, after a week or so I joined an active guild and I'm having lots of fun now and meeting new friends. :)
I made sure to talk to the different guilds I was interested in, and found out what their main timezone was, number of active members, etc. Perhaps you should also check out the guild thread on the forums here, and find a guild that suits you better. :)

A guild makes a big difference in how you can experience the game.
