noob question on magic quest

BTW, I find this game very entertaining.

I was doing the magic quest where it asks you to group, then go out and kill 10 ...

I was grouped with a RL fiend of mine [we both just started playing] and even though we killed the animals requested, we did not seem to make any progress in the quest.

What are we doing wrong?????????

[Sorry, can't remember name of quest or name of animal, but they look like buffalo and were Weaned ...]

Some of the quest counters are not working. If you both are doing the javing quest you each need 10. After you kill 20 your mission will update
