Another newbie on mainland... and a question!

I have just been teleported to the Matis main city in Majestic Gardens.... and I have to say i am really enjoying the buzz - regardless that I am as weak as a sick mosquito - mobs kill me anytime I am further from the city walls than 100m.... :/
Anyhow - I know I will definitely enjoy this game, and whoever said it was not quest-driven was somehow wrong - yes, the quests don't have XP, but why would they? I will be getting better by practice, not by "generic" XP. And that is the correct way!

Finally, the question - is there a way to check the population of Atys (talking about # of players/subscribers to the game? I would be really interested in seeing how it is growing now - I have a suspicion the recent growth rate is really good, and as Ryzom is sitting safely on the very top (bronze medal at the ratings sections of the likes of mmorpg.com - I assume the population will steady growth - in the manner if EvE online

Welcome to the forest Ficere! I remember feeling trapped inside Yrkanis in the beginning too, the gingoses really cut me off from reaching other towns. They're a fun mob to hunt, cause you'll never know if they will blind you and kill you or give you loads of XP.

There is no way to check the total population, only how many players there is in the current region (like Majestic Forest). Write /who and count the names listed in System Info.

Just a note on the Gingos - I was in the same position as you were, best thing to do to expand your boundaries is to find a friendly crafter (or even better, a guild) and get yourself a decent set of armour made for you.

With the ranger set from noob island I was struggling to kill 1 gingo, as soon as my guild made me a decent armour and jewellery set I was managing 2 at a time without too much difficulty and that meant I could venture further afield without getting splatted every 2 seconds.

The help I get in the game is really great - at the moment I have got gift armor with ca +300 extra focus - so i am working on my forage skill
And I'm not even in a guild!
This game has an amazingly friendy bunch of players

Hi there.

We all (Matis) were in this position once.
But, trust me, there are ways around the Gingo and Ragus that roam about the outskirts of Yrkanis. It took me few tries back then but I´ve found 3 separate "save ways" to get past them.
I still use them frequently today if I don´t want the beasts to ruin my Armor and have nothing urgent on my mind.
They take a little patience and cunning on your side, but they are relatively easy to walk/run without firing a single shot, or slashing/hitting once with a wapon.

Just try it, you´ll be amazed at how "sneakable" Ryzom is, once you understand the Mobs.

Yeah, that can be true... once I wandered as far as the Arena... it was amazing but then I got killed quickly. At least I saw some grazing kitins
