A few check points (some are just to be clear):

Does your screen support 1024*768?
Are you using an onboard graphic card, or is it a plug in card (AGP etc.)?
What brand and model?
Is your dekstop set to 24/32 bit (right click on the desktop and look under properties and the settings)?
Did you install the driver correctly?
Do you have more than one graphic card in the computer?
Do you have directx installed?
Can you play other 3D games on it?
