Now dont get me wrong, Im a newb 100%.
As it stands now, Im around lvl 40 in Off Magic and Melee. My experience with SoR has been a great breath of fresh air compared with other MMO's out there, and I think SoR is tremendously underrated on just about every MMO chart it's on.
With that said, given my first 4-5 days experience in this MMO, it seems that Melee is by far easier to level up in, as well as around the same in terms of damage (DPS) one can do to creatures.
Something I want to ask the veterans at the higher levels:
Does Magic eventually start to trump melee in terms of sheer damage you can do later at the higher levels of gameplay?
It just seems like the melee players level up their skills much quicker than Magic oriented characters, and have around the same degree of damage. If this was still the case once you start to get higher in levels, I would maybe re-think my characters concept. I mean, I dont think Magic is too hard or anything, but just through the 30's up until the 40 mark, Ive spent less than half the time getting my melee up there as opposed to my Magic, which has taken the bulk of my time to get that high...
Any advice from veterans on this issue? I hope in my newbness that Im ignorant to the fact that Magic will eventually outdamage most of the melee skills being that its a harder skill to play.
Melee > Magic? Surely Not....
Re: Melee > Magic? Surely Not....
Magic ends up > Melee, annoyingly so.

Re: Melee > Magic? Surely Not....
Yes, elemental magic will eventually far out do melee in terms of sheer damage, starting at lvl 100 and then cementing its position at 125.
That being said, it can often be easier to solo melee. Being able to wear heavy armor and parry attacks can extend the duration between downtimes to rest up.
Magic, especially at upper levels, will drain your sap and health very quickly dishing out all the damage even if you're not hit at all.
oh, and Welcome!

In terms of raw damage, yes. In more general terms I disagree but that's another subject.grimjim wrote:Magic ends up > Melee, annoyingly so.
