I think to role play you have to see that character as an extention of either yourself or as an actor would a character you would like to be or a challenging role. The way I see it by just using a character ingame we are all role playing to a certain extent.

I like to RP sometimes but what can annoy me is when people start RPing in regional chat it's not like we are all carrying mobile phones and not everyone wants to read peoples RPing chat.

I think it's not a case of people disliking RP but more of a case of people disliking other peoples RP being forced on them as in the case of misusing region chat for the purpose of RP.

The nanoseed is generally considered to be the medium by which all in game long distance communication is made. A sort of 'radiotelepathy'. Personally I find it far more jarring from the gameworld to see 'LFG' type messages coming up all the time when it's not much effort to designate OOC with brackets, or to put it into in-character terms.

Long distance RP communication can be done in whispers or guild does not really need to be done in region. Depending ofc what you intend your target audience to be.

Or who you're talking to, or how many, or where they are.
So no, it can't necessarily.

Oh I prefer so much region roleplay over whisper/guildchat roleplay, it makes the world feel so much more alive when you hear Jyudas or Sxarlet, etc, cracking jokes in the region you're in. The channel isn't just for calling for rez, in my opinion. Is this this annoying to you, Troll16? Why, nobody forces you to play along?

Nothing beats /around though. You can't really emote over long distance (even with the nanoseed excuse).

Actually, the annoying part does not refer to this game, it was more WoW related. I personally don't mind RP and even do RP sometimes but I don't really see a reason to RP in regional chat. If I feel like RPing, I would always use /around, /team, /guild or /tell and never /region or /universal. /region and /universal is not really RPing as far as I am concerned.

But if you have ever played WoW on their RP servers and see some of the rubbish that passes for RPing in /general chat you will know what I mean.

Hope that makes it less cloudy now :)

Honestly I'm ignorant. I have no idea how to "role play" other than saying things like "Thank you kind sir" or "May the Sun shine upon your future." What am I missing? I don't make a point of asking where people are from in RL. I usually play a girl character although I'm a guy. I don't usually mention that unless someone point blank asks me or starts giving me gifts then I let them down easy. ;)

Any links to good articles out there on what makes a good role player? I'm serious.
I started a girl Tryker as a second character (have a male Tryker also) and I've stopped playing her because I never was approached by anyone when I play the guy, but as soon as I login with her, people start talking to me.

Haven't people learned by now that most female characters in these games are really men? :)

Anyway, I guess I can't handle being hit on by guys so I stopped playing her immediately!!

I'm of the same opinion as this. Though you can say it's a "nanoseed" it still makes no real sense, unless it's something that's been written in the Prime Fiction\Lore.

In other games it works. When I played CoH we used a private Global chat channel as our comm channel, and it allowed us to RP when running missions, or while on other characters. But it also made sense. You can do the same thing with EVE Online, and say it's a comm link, though I've only seen a minute amount of RP there.

And as for /universal, I was under the assumption it was for questions/answers only. So RP shouldn't be taking place there anyway.

For the record though, if roleplaying takes effort and work, then I don't think you're quite doing it right. ;) For me, I roleplay to escape and take it easy. How is that? Well, I just take myself and my personality, and apply it to a fictional character in a fictional world, leaving all traces of "Real Life" behind.

Amen to that

It is official, at least to some extent (former Tryker governor Still Wyler's seed was shattered by the Goo weapon at a recent-ish event, causing his permanent death, and Marshall Phanasa died of seed damage in the kitin invasion of Pyr). The nanoseed is responsible for respawn, and it makes sense that it would also be responsible for telepathic communication. But it's probably not telepathic in a mystical, lame-excuse sort of way - as the "nano" implies, it is probably some kind of inborn organic technology.
