Need more information, please

I've been mostly grinding and kill quests, too. It's mainly the timed quests that can be a pain.

It's for the amber (whatever) for the main quest that I'm having a problem with. It's for the messenger you have to meet when you get to the mainland. I've tried several of those fedex quests and can never get to where or who I'm supposed to. I'm finding it very frustrating. And I can't find information anywhere that explains that part of the lore. Am I wasting my time on those?

The amber cube (encyclopedia) quests are well worth it. If it's the one I think it is, then it has a good ending too IMO. You can cheat a little bit, by using http://ryzom.raum.com/?t=itemdb&s=npcs if it gets frustrating

LOL, yes, I did discover that site. But it hasn't helped so far. I keep trying to find someone who knows how to get on top those hills to those NPC's I'm supposed to deliver messages to, in Cities of Intuition, like Hoi Cho or Jen Lai. I just had a thought though, if those names aren't NPCs, then who do I deliver the messages to?

Hoï-Cho and Jen-Laï are towns outside the main town. Zoom in a bit on the map and you'll see green flags with the town's names.

I know, I've been to all those outposts. That still doesn't tell me where to deliver the messages. Perhaps to another Messenger?

All the delivery missions for this rite are for NPC's inside the buildings save one (the city welcomer in Hoi-Chi). You need to go up the ramp and teleport into the building. One hint is that military type messages (orders and reports) go to military types who have guards outside their offices.

All delivery missions, packages as well as messages, go to NPC's with titles, i.e. Captain, Overseer, Patroller, Hunter, etc. Don't bother looking at the homin wandering aimlessly around the cities. They either have enough time to fetch their own messages/packages, or they aren't important enough for a delivery.

Bottom line is that you need to explore and map out where all of the npcs are. Then you go back, get the missions and make the deliveries in the time limit.

I see you have to put pins on the maps to remember where npc's are. The names just are so frustrating.
