I'm on the mainland now and had a look about buying a pack mount to carry stuff around. In the stable, there were different mounts available with various constitutions. What does this affect? Is it a measure of hit points or how fast it can run?
Also, what happens when you die? Does your mount get attacked next by the mob? Do you lose your stuff if it dies?
How do you tell when you need to feed it?
Many thanks
Questions about mounts
Re: Questions about mounts
As far as I can remember, the constitution determines how 'tough' the packer is, i.e. more hitpoints. It can basically take more hits. If you're not planning on moving them around much, you don't need a tough one.
If you die, the packer doesn't normally get attacked far as I know. It usually only takes damage from mobs that have area of effect attacks, like Goaris with their electric attack. If your packer or mount* dies, you have 3 (?) days to empty it before the body disappears. Only at that point do you lose your stuff.
When it's hungry and needs feeding, it can't run. You get a message telling you that.
* packers and mounts are 2 different things. Packers simply carry your gear and have a larger inventory. Mounts are for riding.

Re: Questions about mounts
In all the time I've been on Atys, I've seen two dead packers. The first was about 1.5 years ago, the second a few months ago. Both had been killed by carnivores.
I agree with Philu in that the packer normally doesn't get attacked. But I would still recommend you get the toughest you can. Why? Because you're not likely to set it free and get a tougher one later. Besides, the tougher one's do run faster. I outran my first packer when I used speed to escape mobs, and replaced it because of that.
Mounts carry 100 bulk, packers carry 500 bulk. You may have 4 animals in all.
Think forward, you will most likely bring your packer out to the region where you harvest

Re: Questions about mounts
Thanks for that. Presumably I can leave the packer somewhere if I don't want it with me for a while.
Re: Questions about mounts
do mounts and packers follow when teleporting?
Re: Questions about mounts
no, but they will follow if you go through a portalthebluer wrote:do mounts and packers follow when teleporting?

Yep, leave it in the stablesallisa wrote:Thanks for that. Presumably I can leave the packer somewhere if I don't want it with me for a while.
Re: Questions about mounts
Actually, many folk leave their packers in the stable and use it as a storage bank, rather than a mobile pack animal.
Also, if you have mats loaded on a packer, you can craft from them without having to move them to your personal inventory if you are standing close to the packer in question.
I dont know if you can craft straight from a packer when it's out of the stable, since I never take mine out lol.

Where does the light go, when the light goes out?
Re: Questions about mounts
Yes, you can. It's your closeness to the beast and not whether it's in the stable or not that determines if you can craft from it. I was doing that for a while until I decided it was just as easy to teleport back and forth.pugmak wrote:I dont know if you can craft straight from a packer when it's out of the stable, since I never take mine out lol.
