Well, I think it is a major flaw in game design that healers cannot heal themselves. What's the point of someone getting to 250 healing if he can't heal himself? (Self heal is available to everyone...).
Is there any special SELF benefit in being a 250 healer?
Is there _ANY_ self benefit from being a 250 healer?

You're very popular for PvP battles and boss hunts.zokee wrote:Well, I think it is a major flaw in game design that healers cannot heal themselves. What's the point of someone getting to 250 healing if he can't heal himself? (Self heal is available to everyone...).

So asides from being popular there is nothing for you when you solo? sounds like a flaw in game design to me.

HP balance to let your team mates know that you had low hpzokee wrote:Well, I think it is a major flaw in game design that healers cannot heal themselves. What's the point of someone getting to 250 healing if he can't heal himself? (Self heal is available to everyone...).

One doesn't really go healer to give themselves a whole bunch of abilites they can cast on themselves. They do it to better the people they play with and allow them to stay alive. A doctor doesn't perform surgery on himself. He does it on others.
This game is not a solo game. Its team based and therefore incredibly hard to solo your way through it. Since its team based, you have to rely on your other team mates for things, such as heals. Thus a healer becomes vital to anything done in Atys. I know of very few high level players that don't have heal over 200.So asides from being popular there is nothing for you when you solo?

Resist perhaps... But you can get the same effect from 250 ele (Which is way more enjoyable to lvl then heal at higher lvls ) So other then that I don't think you get anything...

A doctor gets salary which he uses for his own benefits - your analogy is flawed.totnkopf wrote:HP balance to let your team mates know that you had low hp

So I guess healing is made for people who don't care about the power of their characters... I mean, you can't even heal yourself or use your beneficial powers on yourself
Re: Is there _ANY_ self benefit from being a 250 healer?
Self Heal has a cooldown timer which increases by ten seconds with every 100HP increase. So it becomes useless at higher levels, during bossfights and group PvP in particular, except as an occasional small and brief boost. During an outpost battle, all Self Heal will accomplish is granting you an extra second or two of uptime. High-powered heals must be flying constantly for a side to survive.zokee wrote:Well, I think it is a major flaw in game design that healers cannot heal themselves. I've played games where you can heal yourself, either through use of an action/power or potions (pot' spamming). Those games have their own sort of balance. Ryzom's balancing is simply different. Being able to heal yourself like that has no place in it.
Healing in Ryzom is selfless, in a way. The best healers I've known have demonstrated selflessness even above and beyond what is imposed by the game mechanics (i.e. voluntarily healing outside of team so that the team gets more exp).
- You don't get healing exp outside of team and combat. You must be actively helping others in order to gain healing exp.
- You can heal or resurrect anyone at any time, however. Hence we have people chasing people they don't know just to heal them, and people going out of their way to res, both at no benefit to themselves.
- Having a higher heal skill just means you are better able to helping others.
And so I return to my statement that healing is a selfless pursuit.

and you receive XP for doing it and thus you get payment for healing others in the form of XP. The analogy stands. If a doctor is in need of surgery, he goes to someone else rather than grabbing the nearest scalpel and getting to work.zokee wrote:A doctor gets salary which he uses for his own benefits - your analogy is flawed.

And as Jelanthia has pointed out, the self heal is virtually useless unless you're dueling. Its sort of an extension on life. You can use to maybe get you away from that mob or get out of the aggro spawn at least. As I said before, this game is not a solo game and you can NOT use the self-heal to solo your way through spawns of mobs.

One could say the healer is the most powerful Homin in game, without them we are all dead.
