I set out to become a healer in the game. So, when I reached magic 21 I took the role of healer in parties, but I noticed that healing is not rewarded most of the time. When clearing to get to the boss all heals remain unrewarded, since you only get experience for a kill when you heal someone who was damaged by that npc before that npc dies. So you start healing when the first damage is done, but the npc is dead before the spell finishes (all one one npc at a time): no xp.
This is very disheartening. How is anybody to become a healer this way? How am I supposed to build up my defensive magic?
Healing is not rewarded much
Re: Healing is not rewarded much
You can heal sap and stamina too, drained by a player's own attacks, you don't have to heal someone damaged by an enemy. If that player gets exp for their successful action, so will you. But a team does make it extremely difficult for a healer if they virtually one-shot targets all the time. If the team is doing well and in no real threat, use small heals so that players still have points left that you can heal when they turn to the next enemy.
Re: Healing is not rewarded much
i assume you still on newbie island. in there, tank (or whoever does the killing), needs to take that into account and let healer get xp also.ronald58 wrote:This is very disheartening. How is anybody to become a healer this way? How am I supposed to build up my defensive magic?
pst, fear that mob, then you have time to heal tank
in mainland it's all different. mobs have higher HP and they take longer to kill.
Re: Healing is not rewarded much
I did not realise that I could do that. It will help to heal sap and stamina too in most circumstances. Thanks for the tip.
And yes, it is on the starter island. It will be better when when more npc's will be harder to kill (but not when I solo). Still I want to achieve something on the starter island too before I go to the mainland. However, it is comforting to know that matters will improve.

Don't be disheartened now, there is always a solution for such problems.ronald58 wrote: This is very disheartening. How is anybody to become a healer this way? How am I supposed to build up my defensive magic?
The healer gets xp if he was capable to heal
- heal damage taken by a team member during the fight
- heal an attribute that was used to power and action used to attack an enemy, like (hp,sap, stamina)
So if you know who is the damage dealer in the group, that for sure hits the mob, wait until he starts his attack and heal stamina in case of a melee or ranged fighter, or sap in case of a mage. And then concentrate on keeping the team members alife.
If you hunt with a higher level group I think healing the main healer entitels you for xp too, if the main healer gets one.
If the mobs die so fast that you don't get xp all the time, choose bigger prey.
I hope this helps a bit. This worked for me, so it should work for you.
If you have any further questions, feel free to ask me here or in-game.

You could also ask your tank to pull the increased damage and bleed (or whatever extra umph are in the action) out of his action, or ask the tank to default attack (the crossed swords). That should give other party members a chance to hit/heal and everyone gets xp.

The XP system is really good and quite innovative (for a MMORPG). It's fun and it makes sense. And it allows for freedom.
But even though you all have good semi-solution for the problem, the system is still utterly flawed for healers. Healers shouldn't have to use special strategies that forces groups to "wait" for them, thus slowing down the whole team.
Evem of mobs have higher HPs on the main land, still the healers are at disadvantage. I wonder how hard it would be to add some time after a mob is dead before dividing the XP between players. Giving 10 seconds for healers to land a heal on a person wounded by that very mob. The healer would deserve the XP...

Healers actually have a huge advantage over *all* the other skills.azziane wrote: Evem of mobs have higher HPs on the main land, still the healers are at disadvantage. Magic, melee, ranged all have a chance to have their attacks completely dodged or resisted, especially as the creatures you're fighting get much higher level than you. However, a lvl 100 healer in a lvl 200 team will get XP no trouble as they can't "miss" their target at all.
The need to "wait" for the healer to get a shot in disappears very early, it's definitely no problem at all past 100, usually much earlier.
Healing is also the most sought after skill for teams looking for members. Most will agree it's one of the fastest skills to lvl.

It disappeared for me as a level 35 healer when I started teaming with folks at about level 45 who were hitting Kippees. Got 15 levels my first evening, not even trying hard. Its hard for healers on the training island because everyone can single shot most mobs by the time you finish all the missions for either the magic or melee trainers. Doesn't give the healer a chance. But trust me, that completely disappears once you hit the mainland. First time that mage hits a Capryni and finds himself fighting all the nearby capryni also, he's not only gonna need that healer to survive, but he's gonna discover that on the mainland they don't go down so easy.

Foraging and Healing are running neck and neck for me, both are higher than any other skills. And I've REALLY been trying to get my melee skills up there, just never seems to catch up with healing.

Re: Healing is not rewarded much
Another healer trick is to not completely heal your team mates after a fight. Leave them a little bit dented and you can start casting your heal as soon as they start toward the enemy.
The damage you heal doesnt have to be from that particular fight.
