I am still on the starters island, but I am wondering whether there is any concensus about what each and every chat channel should be used for.
I see the region (is that the right name?) channel is used for quest related questions, request to be resurrected, looking for group requests, hour long discussions about other mmorpg's and anything not game related. In other words the channel is swamped. I solved it by closing this channel, but now I miss all looking for group requests. Is this a starters isle problem? Should I be using another channel? Is there a pointer to what is the purpose of each channel?
Chat channel descriptions?
Re: Chat channel descriptions?
I think it's really a starter isle problem. On the mainland the region channel can sometimes still be noisy, but people are perhaps more likely to discuss other games in their guildchat. There are no pointers about the purpose of each channel except for the Universe channel - set up to allow veterans to advise newcomers on general game mechanics. I'd like to think that people would take in-depth discussions of other games to a private conversation such as personal /tell, team chat or IRC. Apart from that the things you mention seem to be what region is generally used for: region specific help.
Re: Chat channel descriptions?
Thanks for the answer. I will try not to become dishearted while still on the starter isle. Will leave there in about a week anyway. When I am confident enough about the game mechanics.
Re: Chat channel descriptions?
Oh no, you shouldn't be disheartened If you want to try to keep things a little more rp yourself and set a worthy example, try to stick to the Around channel as much as you can, or at least when you can see other people within 50m. Talking only has an audible range of about 22m, I think /shout has a range of 45 - I forget now.

That is useful to know. Thanks. And I will search the forum for the exact distances.jamela wrote:Oh no, you shouldn't be disheartened If you want to try to keep things a little more rp yourself and set a worthy example, try to stick to the Around channel as much as you can, or at least when you can see other people within 50m. Edit: According to the FAQ a shout is heard in the whole region. Not found anything about say yet.

No, I'd suggest that you perform your own experiment and find out for yourself
Maybe your voice is stronger and carries further than my squeaky little one
