Solo Friendly?

Post by swede999 »

Hi, I am new to the game. So far, I think that the game is pretty complex yet undocumented. This is a frustrating combination but for some reason, I keep coming back to play and just wind up figuring things out.

Anyway, I like to group with people but I also enjoy playing solo. Is it possible to still progress through the game solo and still have fun? That's fine if the game is geared for groups. I would just like to know ahead of time.

Thanks for your insight.

The best skills for playing solo are doing the Harvesting and Crafting sides of the skill tree.

It is possible to level in Fight and Magic alone but it is alot slower as you have to wait for self heals, for sap to regen etc and it is more or less impossible to level affliction alone.

I have a slightly different opinion. I solo almost everything, including fight and magic. The only things I can't/don't solo are healing (not possible to solo), and afflictions (not practical to solo, but possible). The vast majority of my combat levels (melee and magic) have been soloed, and since for me the game is a world to live in and effect by my very presence (kinda like RL) and not a "grind-fest", that all works for me very well.

Don't misunderstand me, I do team when it suits my mood, my purpose, and/or my desire to help some poor soul. And I do enjoy teaming when it "fits" me. But its not my primary game play. I RP a loner who lurks the deep desert, coming in to "civilization" only when it suits my purpose (or mood, or curiosity, or ...).

To me speed does not matter... so if it's possible to solo but just slow, that's OK. Why do I want it possible to solo? Well I'm not always in the mood to group, and when I am or am not is rather unpredictable... sometimes I feel like one, sometimes like the other. It's important to know that if I happen to log in and be in the mood to solo, I can (whether it's fast or slow)... and not something like "Forget it, after level X, even a single mob requires a group to kill." That's the part where I start to get annoyed.

Forget it, no matter what your level, 2-black-star purple mobs require a group to kill.... :p

Heheh... not what I mean.

There are games out there where, say, once you hit level 50, a single creature or NPC of any type is not soloable, and the lands in which you adventure are not soloable.

Or, the missions handed out cannot be soloed. Example: in City of Heroes when they give you a mission with an Arch-villain in it. You can now lower the difficulty of your missions to avoid them, but until last fall, for a year and a half, if you had such a mission, it could not be soloed. And it could not be abandoned. I found myself with 3 such missions, and you can't have more than 3 total misisons on your "mission board" in COH. So I had 3 missions, all not soloable, and none of my friends were on for 3 or 4 nights in a row (it was the holidays or something). It made my character basically not playable.

THAT annoys me.

Having an arch-villain is fine if I can avoid it. If I *have* to fight it to proceed, and I can't solo it, now I get aggravated...

don't worry about that. the game is soloable, and at least as a Fyros newbie you'll have to solo sometimes. I hardly met any newcommers around the Fyros capital and have serious trouble finding teams during my play time (18:00-24:00 CET).

Solo is definitely possible :P I have solo'd 1 of my 1h trees all the way to 185 solo ... and back when I was doing ele I solo'd 235-245 ... so you can pretty much solo at any level,As long as you know where and how to hunt.
