thinking about leaving the game.

Post by lordzren »

not a thread about why the game is bad . nore do i want it do be.

i am posting this because sending an email i know it will never be read but if ppl reply to this mabey this will be looked at.

the main big reason i am leaving this game is the player base.

its a fantastic game and i love it to bits. but its a mmorpg. by its name there should be 1000's of people to play with.

i have played mmorpgs for a wile now and i always quit one when there is nolonger people to play with.

this game is very new. just out. some people will say i am not giving it a change because more people will come soon.

i am sorry to tell you they wont. the first few weeks of a mmorpg is normaly when they hit the highest number of players then the months after a few people will leave and a few will start the game. even with expacks games never get a big influx of players.

im fedup playing mmorpgs where i spend most of my online time running around alone seeing only a few hardcore players.

i am sorry to say i am leaving and i know im not helping things but from my point of view i dont care if the mmorpg is only text based, all i want is lots of human players to role play and have fun with.

i feel this game would have been the best of the best if only they...

made it a free download which included a fee weeks play.

its sad to think a game this good this fantasicly made will be posting a message on the main site in a years time saying "servers will be closed from 1/6/05 due to lack of players. we are sorry to do this "

if your ready to jump and defend the game, fine i will also defend it because i love it to bits. but please log into the game run to a town and count the blue dots. how many do you see? 100? 50 ? 20 ? or just 2-3

im not going to say i feel like i wasted my money because i dont. its a risk to me buying a mmorpg . risk being if there will be a large player count.

still got a few weeks free so will check fourms to see if anything big has happended and will prob log in now and again to see pops. wont bother playing tho unless there are alot of people online.

sorry for going on abit.

what do u think ?

and no you cannot have my stuff :D

I've seen people come, people go, all for different reasons. To each their own.

New people coming from the starting lands to the mainland every day. To me, I have seen neither too many people, nor what I would consider too few. It's balanced between the amount of mobs in the area and their respawn rates. On a very few occasions I have seen what happens when there are too many people hunting in the same area. And what happened wasn't good. The area becomes devoid of anything worth hunting. The environment reacts to how it is hunted, great concept. Now if we had 100s of people hunting in these areas, KS'ing/camping/etc would become problems. Anyone who has played EQ when the Sullon Zek server went live knows what I'm talking about.

The storyline of this game is that the world was overrun by kitin due to an accident. We are starting to move back into the world and establish our different civilizations again. We are the 3rd generation after the return. You can't have 100s of people all of a sudden flood back and have it fit in the storyline.

As for around town? I typically see a good 10+ people at the capitals at least, even in the middle of the morning (2-3am est). I avoid them during the day, so I couldn't tell you what peak populations are. Traveling through matis lands at odd hours, I see scatterings of people going about their business in the fields, even at these odd hours. When I'm in my homeland areas, I see a number of harvesters in Loria.

Some people like having lots of people around. Maybe it would be prudent for them to come back after a bit of a hiatus so that the world can change and reflect that. You clear an area of creatures, they take a while to repopulate, not an exact spawn time for each mob, but a slow growing of the population. The developers did a wonderful job in designing this living world. And having a flood of people (100s) come all at once would ruin the gameplay for everyone.

Maybe if you wished to see a greater amount of people, you should try traveling and living in the Fyros or Matis civilizations, for they are the more populous of the 4. Sometimes it takes a while to find a place to call home, and sometimes with many trials and tribulations to do so. But in the end, once you do find it, its all the more precious.

one thing that would help here is merging the american and european english servers, since, judging from the forum attendance, both communities combined have about as many members as both the german and french community on their own

It's hard to say. Eve Online has hit its highest subscriber base just recently. The game got off to a slow start. Many people hated it at launch and it has slowly filled out, added content, and seems to have a nice niche in the MMORPG market.

I would rather have quality than quantity. I've been in plenty of games where there were lots of jerks who played. The community of Ryzom seems very helpful and overall very polite. This game needs to develop. It's very basic right now, so it has its work cut out for it. If the game gets better, more people will play. If it doesn't, then people will leave.

AO is a game that got off to a disaster of a start. People left in droves. Miricle of all miricles, they turned it around and I think it had a pretty stable player base. Ryzom is never gonna be some 500K subscriber game, but it doesnt' need that to do well.

I just cancelled my subscription for the same reason.

Im from Australia so Im not on at prime times anyway but during the weekend when there should atleast be the peak times.... max 20 people on at a time... pretty sad.

May be back... but I'll be giving WoW and EQ2 a go before then.

Good luck to all those who are staying...

The game has potential... and is good... but I like people to talk to while im playing :)

Cheers,

TO be honest, I haven't even been back to my mainland (Pyr) in 2 and a half weeks, mostly because me and he guild I am in have been using our time in other, bigger, cities...

Your sayng that there is a devoud amount of population.. have you ever thought of joining a guild? You get 30-40 people to group up with and have fun all day... doesn't get better then that in my own experience :-)

I'm not thinking about leaving because i like the game, but something that i think about a lot is the timing. a lot of people have mentioned it in the past and present. with wow and eq2 debuing in the near future. people's attention is drawn away. it sucks because ryzon is squared away and would probibly kick the other games asses, but they are better known and by nature attract lots of people. ryzom suffers because of it. the timing of this game sucks and is too bad.

ps i tried to make a point but i'm drunk so if it is retarded and spelling error ridden please forgive :)

Isnt part of the problem that the land is just vast? There are so many regions that there could be 1000 players in Matis or the borderlands but if I am not in that region I have no way to tell. Also I think merging english Europe and North America onto one server is a great idea. I am on the east coast and play in the mornings and evenings. It seems like there is a heavy west coast base in the game and I have missed alot of great groups/raids because they were starting at 1:30 am my time. Comining Europe/NA would definately give a more concentrated player base around the clock.

Well Im Matis on Arispotle, loads of us on every night, 65 in our guild alone and its more like I get bothered from my lonely foraging sessions to come help hunt than the opposite of never seeing anyone.

Id like to say that one possible answer was to have left the american server in London and just made it the english speaking server, however the differences in the euro/american culture lend that to be a bad idea.

The fact that theyve given us a free extra week to say sorry for the distribution problems is something I never would see SoE do (ex Planetside player of 18 months).

I think personally once patch one and two are out and guilds can start taking outposts, quests are available then this game will be on the road to being really good. I do think however that this content should have been in at release.

i agree. there is so much which is missing in this game.
of corse it is costly to stay in beta and you can loose the markets intrest.

but saying that if a game has a good system and a high hype people will come . if you bring it out too early and it gets a bad hype. thats a hard thing to change around.
