just nosying through the in development/test/oblivion of promises section of the website.
nothing has changed for absolutly ages and ages and ages. what is there to look forward to other than ring (of which I have jack-all interest in) and spires (which I dont believe is a great idea). There is no new real developer *content* promised to the player who wants it all on a plate like I occasionally do.
there is also no word in nevrax sorting out a multitude of flaws in the balancing which have been there since moses walked the earth.
Come on guys give a poor kami a break and at least give me something to get excited about.
wheres the new lands, new mobs, new things to do, new new new stuff

Jacko,
Your points are imho valid and several players have stated similar concerns (myself included)

That said, a similar thread on french forums has made Marjo react and she posted that she'll be updating the "in development" sections Soon (TM) It would indeed be nice if we could have a macroscopic overview of the roadmap for ryzom.
Off my head, being a forum junkie as I am, I regularly see posts regarding: new lands, new areas, new races, new mobs, new skills, new planets, new rites, new events, new invasions, ranged improvements, 1h stats, etc.

Ryzom Ring will allow the developers to implement new areas / "content" faster and more easily.

Re: jackoba's tri monthly whinge
To expand on this a bit and also to excercise the grey matter a bit, think about these questions:
Do the developers have easy-to-use tools ready to create content?
If they had, why does it take ages to create new content? (rites)
Why are they bugged to all hell and need months of debugging?
Why are they taking ages to make exactly such a tool available to users?
Why are they refactoring the whole server/shard structure in order to do that?
Of course all these questions are rethoric and faulty form the beginning. They don't have such a tool, period. That is why they are creating it now. They probably stopped development of the rites as soon as they realized they neded better tools. Then they took a step further and decided to make those tools available to users in order to be able to sell it off better ("All serious game development is going on halt while we develop new in-house tools." wouldn't have gone over so well
) and in order to exploit it's marketability(zOMG, MMORPG EDITOR!!!11).
You cry for content? You flip off the Ring? Think again. The Ring is being created in order to be able to actually create content in an efficient manner. It is the direct answer to what you ask.

Re: jackoba's tri monthly whinge
To be fair they have made new content (*points to RoS*) and it have given the community (or game if you like
) more members (I know of several that I helped get to the mainland
).
An increase in subscriptions makes it easier for Nevrax to add more to the game and advance it, and they have to worry less about the boring financial details.

Re: jackoba's tri monthly whinge
rings all good and well for the rp orientated people I admit, I however dont want to create my own content, I just cant be bothered tbh. also ring scenaros will have pretty much no bearing on the "real" game.xenofur wrote:You cry for content? as for the new tools, as far as I can tell ring wont be producing new eco systems/mobs/craft plans, so while we might get another alanti woods (or whatever the PvP place was called) and a few scripted events using these tools, anything dramatic (exciting) is still a country mile away
(newb island great idea, totally irrelevent to me)
Re: jackoba's tri monthly whinge
Typically, I find, players tend to forget just how much work it can be to develop things, not to mention the costs involved.. Alls I can say is good job so far, devs, and keep at it.

Re: jackoba's tri monthly whinge
As I stated in the post that Ani linked to ( 3rd link ), I understand that Nevrax can't afford a large dev team. Thats not an issue with me (hence asking for small things like quest rewards. the quests are in game, many of the auras and other reward items are in game. They just need to be linked together). The issue is that there has been NO development at all on anything non-ring or spire related. No mention of balancing, no mention of fixing bugs or adding anything that was previously mentioned (offspring, deeper roots/ canopy, etc). Slow development on the large additions is fine (look at ring... its been in dev over a year), but I see no excuse for the smaller bugs and issues (such as encyclopedia) to go untouched for years.simiant wrote:Typically, I find, players tend to forget just how much work it can be to develop things, not to mention the costs involved.. Also, R2 will be giving players a reduced set of tools that the dev teams uses. hence any instance that is created will never be as great, nor add anything all that new to the game. I'm all for RPers to have a place to go have a tea party, but I'm more interested in the actual story of Atys. What are the Zorai going to do against the Goo? (and why is it not currently spreading?) Why have the kitin stopped invading or attempting to attack our homes? etc etc. All of these topics were brought up and are a daily aspect of the game, yet they have been pushed to the side for things like R2.
As much as I would like to see Atys overflowing with new faces, R2 will not do that. It will bring in some new faces, to be sure, but it won't make SoR the hottest MMO out there, nor will it elvate it much more than the current pop (since many of the people aren't interested in R2, there will continue to be a trickle of subs leaving). Fixing the current flaws, fixing issues that have been in game for years and evolving the storyline to actually move forward and be interactive (temple event for example. Involved all aspects of SoR: fighters, crafters, diggers. it also contained storyline and introduced new items and rewards. not to mention a cool looking temple) would bring a larger crowd. Or do both and get the best of both worlds (and the multitude of subs that would come with it).
Also, I'd like a Nevrax to come out and define their word of the use "soon", so that once and for all, we actually have an idea of what that word means to them.
