Dodge/ParryEvade?

Post by thebluer »

Hello fellow Atysians. After about 2 weeks of playing Ryzom, I got a few questions about fighting and hoped someone could help me there:

Parry
1. What is influencing the parrying value?
Medium/Heavy Armor
Shield
Anything else, like a skill level?
2. What exactly does that value mean?
Is it a %-chance meaning if I got a value of 54 I'll parry 54% of all attacks?
Or is it like skills going up to 250 and haveing 250 parry would mean parrying 100% or all attacks?
Or is it more something like his attack skill minus my parrying skill is his chance to hit me? How would that be calculated then?

Dodge
3. What is influencing the dodge value?
Medium/Heavy Armor
Anything else, like a skill level?
Any difference for meleers/rangers/mages?
4. What exactly does that value mean?
(Same question for dodgeing as it was for parrying)

Evade
5. How is the chance to evade an attack calculated?
Is it a comparison of my weapon level and his weapon level? Let's say I'm using a sword, got level 30 in melee fighting and the oponent is using its claws and got level 30 in close combat, how will it's chances to evade my attack be?

I hope someone can answer me those questions,
thx in advance

a partial answer while you wait for someone better informed than me :)

parry is built up as follows:
+ the skill level of the weapon you are currently using
+ parry mods on your armor
+ parry mod from shield

dodge:
+ your highest magic level, or forage/2 whichever is higher
+ dodge mod on light or medium armor

evade:
no idea, its a new thing that was patched with the RoS

so for a real world example lets take me :)
lv236 elemental
lv216 1h sword
lv135 pike
wearing 5 peices of med armor all with +2 parry, +1 dodge
+36 parry shield with sword

if i was using the sword i would have:
parry of 216+10+36 = 262
dodge of 236+5 = 241

and with the pike
parry of 135+10 = 145
dodge of 236+5 = 241

what this means generally is parry is best used for higher level weapon skills, or fighters with low magic levels.

you'll notice that 2h weapons have dodge and parry stats for both you and the target of your aggression, these are factored in to the above.. now as to how its decided if you perform a dodge/parry or the mob does, no idea.. i just stick with the idea that higher is better

hope that was vaguely clear :)

The decision whether you parry or dodge is something you make on your own I think: there's a button switching between those modes.

However I don't know if
setting dodge mode completely disables parrying or just increases the the chance to dodge either absolute or relative to parrying or if it gives a bonus to dodge chance.

So no one knows how evading is calculated?

Good information to have. I had not figured much of that out... Mostly what I have been doing is hitting "P" and looking at the dodge and parry numbers at the bottom and switching into whichever is highest at the time (which depends, as you say, on the weapon equipped, etc).

But it's good to know what causes the changes.

You evade when you opponent misses, rather than when you parry / dodge. This is determined by the difference in your skill lvl and the mobs lvl (I think).

So, if you are a lvl 50 in the melee skill that you use and attack a suckling yubo, most of the yubo's attacks will miss and you will get the evade message. If, on the other hand, you attack an horrific cuttler (lvl 241!!), most of your attacks will miss. Accurate attack increases your chance of hitting mobs that are a higher level than you.

Nope... the easy way to remember is that +3 total is the cap on any armor:

2 dodge 1 parry on LA
1 dodge 2 parry on MA
0 dodge 3 parry on HA
