Well, I just ventured forth from the island to the mainland.
It's... big. Very big. There are at least 10 mission givers in my town.
I didn't know that there are racially specific crafting materials.
What if I don't like Zorai armor?
What if I like Karavan more than Kami and I'm a Zorai?
What if my goal is to actually max out every skill tree? Am I insane?
Does anyone else think this game should come with a bottle of Advil and some Pepto Bismol?
Don't get me wrong, I think this game is *awesome*.
It's just very...
VERY
intricate.
Did anyone else feel this way when they first started? Or, am I a weirdo?
Lord, I've got a headache...
Re: Lord, I've got a headache...
well, I dont think many people DO like Zorai armour, especially not the bucket that sits on their heads .. but thats why the Craft mission trainer on RoS was a Matis
You can travel to other lands, and learn other races crafts and digging secrets, and escape from the opressive control of the Kami shapeshifters..
This is one of the major strengths of Ryzom, It doesnt lock you into a set path, your choices are your own.
As for maxing out all skill trees, I think you need to add a catheter and an IV drip to your computing equipment...

Hmm.
I thought if a Kami-friendly race like Zorai went into a Karavan friendly race's territory like Matis I'd get attacked or wouldn't get merchants to sell to me.

Re: Lord, I've got a headache...
Nope. The only time you will get attacked by NPCs (other than a group of bandits, who will attack anyone) is if you venture too close to a Karavan Temple with positive Kami fame or to a Kami Sanctuary with positive Karavan fame... then the temple guards will kill you. The temples are a reasonable distance away from the capitals, so as long as you stay in town, no NPCs can hurt you.
As for Zorai armor... I love Zorai Light...

Re: Lord, I've got a headache...
They aren't actually racially specific - they're ecosystem specific. You can be a Fyros and yet harvest forest materials, if you are able to travel to a forest region. Foraging of each ecosystem splits into separate skill branches at level 51 Harvest.I didn't know that there are racially specific crafting materials.
You can learn to craft another race's armor simply by visiting a crafter trainer in one of their towns. You can also buy any type of armor. What if I don't like Zorai armor?
A Zorai character starts with -20 Karavan fame by default, but you can do missions for the Karavan to fix that. Any race can have allegiance to any faction. What if I like Karavan more than Kami and I'm a Zorai?
Well, you can try, but that's over 11,000 levels. I don't think anyone has ever done it.What if my goal is to actually max out every skill tree? Am I insane?
Not when I started, actually. I found it more intricate, complex, deep, interesting, etc. etc. the more I played. Maybe because at that time I hadn't played many other MMOs, so I had little basis of comparison.Did anyone else feel this way when they first started? Or, am I a weirdo?
Trading becomes impossible at something like -60 racial fame. Attack-on-sight occurs at -60 or -100 (someone clarify please?).I thought if a Kami-friendly race like Zorai went into a Karavan friendly race's territory like Matis I'd get attacked or wouldn't get merchants to sell to me.

You're right, it's intricate -- or as I like to say, complex.ichthys wrote: It's just very...

I like complexity in a game. Perhaps that's because I study complex systems in ecology for a living. But I think it started way before that (back as a kid playing Champions in the 80s). Complexity == holds my interest, in a game. Simplistic can be fun for a while, but I get bored easily when something is too overly simplistic.
I can see sinking a LOT of hours into Ryzom and still being a relative newb. Heck I have been playing 2.5 weeks, am still on Newbie Island, and still am new at it all. I love that. I'd rather have that, than have the hang of it in a week and be bored by the end of my first month.
This game has depth... bottomless-pit style depth. That's what I want in an MMO. I'm sick of the simple cookie-cutter games (and yes, COH, I am looking RIGHT at you...).

Re: Lord, I've got a headache...
I thought it was -50 for both, but any negative fame = trade penalties. Any fame over +50 equals trade bonus I think. Not sure on that though, cos I'm neutralkatriell wrote:Trading becomes impossible at something like -60 racial fame. Attack-on-sight occurs at -60 or -100 (someone clarify please?).
(For KoS use -51 to be sure, because sometimes you can be at -49.75 or something and it rounds the display to -50 but you arent actually KoS yet.)

I've always thought Zorai armor should be a foraging skill rather than crafting.
I mean, come on!?! For light armor, you just wander round the forest a bit, find some larger than average leaves, smear something sticky on them and then plaster to the part you want covered, wrap a vine around it all and Walla!! Zorai light armor!
for medium, just shove some sticks and twigs down your shorts and up your shirt.
For heavy, just find some branches, break to proper size, then tie them on with some of the vine you have left over from when you made that suit of light armor.
Matis men look just darling in their suits of elegantly poofy "battle wear fashion". Notice too that Matis men tend to speak with a pronounced lisp.
Trykers stuff always reminded me of padded play wear. You know, the kind of stuff that kids that tend to bang their heads on the walls, and bite other kids on the playground tend to wear.
The only armor that actually looks like battle armor is the Fyros stuff
Anyhoo, didnt answer a single question you asked, but you might have had the questions relevent to these issues bubbling around behind your eyeballs, so I thought I'd try to get ahead of the curve, just a bit.

Re: Lord, I've got a headache...
When searching the skill trainers for those nifty skills the best thing you can do is play Queens "I want it all". Loud.
The game has a general overload on levels. Particularly on the new players. It also has a huge freedom in picking skills. If you don't like what you have, get a number of levels and train something else too.
So far the best trick to get anywhere is specializing first and then broaden your scope as you please.
Finally, the headaches only come when asking all the vets for there levels. Way to much stuff to write down in one sentence

That's the unreleased version. Very ahead of their time, Queen was.
