new noob :)

Post by feared »

just opened free trial account and thought id pop on forums and say hi :) only played first mission, done some exploring, wandered aimlessly trying to figure some things out, worked out how to train caster skills at least =)

ive played a lot of mmos, eve online, lineage 2, guildwars, coh/v and currently playing daoc (again). my favourate has been swg by far (pre NGE) and ryzom was recommended to me as a good place to be post swg.

anyways, hope to see u in game :)

Ryzom is conceptually a lot like the old SWG - skill based rather than level based... and you get XP in the skill you are using as you use it (crafting xp for crafting, etc).

It really is a very different game in a lot of ways, though. The skill system is way more involved, and you can take pieces of your own skills (called "stanzas") and combine them to make new ones. For instance, I took the bleed component from "bleed 3" and the accuracy component from "accuracy 3" and combined them to make an "accurate bleed" attack. That, IMO, is way cool...

Anyway, it is a fun game (been playing for about 2.5 weeks... about ready to leave newbie land and start paying them some $ -- and they deserve it IMO).

a little further in, and i have a question, is there anywhere on the trial island that i can buy new 'metal-mage-boxing-glove-things' as my current ones say they no longer effect my spells as they are level 10?

ive found the armor merchants and the melee weapon merchants, but cant find anywhere that sells these gloves of doom.

thanks :)

The Magic Amplifiers can be found at the melee weapons merchants.

or new gloves will be given as you progress through the missions of the big blue Zoari mage guy. "frost touch" amplifiers.

On the newbie island, your best bet for equipment is generally the quest lines for each skill set. The quest lines give you stuff that most people on the island could not possibly make. Those on the mainland could make better, or maybe one or two very good and dedicated crafters on the island can, but it would be very hard to find items like that most of the time.

I'd go ahead and do all the quests and you should end up with decent amplifiers that will last you most of your time on the island.

Still, supporting budding crafters is not a bad idea. :)

The 2h melee merchant (the one holding a larger weapon) is the one that sells magic amplifiers. Best to set the filters in the lower-right corner of the trade window to amps only, and minimum of the quality you need (your Intelligence +10).

What's that about metal? There is no metal on Atys, aside from what the Karavan have. :p There's a reason we use shells, bark, wood, teeth, amber, fiber, etc. in crafting...
