About Craft and Harvest

Post by vandald »

Is it possible to play this game purely as a crafter/gatherer and not be forced to do any fighting? I and a friend are worried about what the feature list says under the PVP section. It, says only in a zone in which everyone can kill you, can you get the best materials to craft with. Would we be forced to group up and/or fight in PVP, or PVE for that matter, just to gather and craft?

Absolutely. You can simply forage and craft, but you'll benefit from learning other skills too. If you never work on your combat skills then you'll likely get killed more often in the high level regions. Why rule out half of the fun altogether? Learning to heal and resurrect other people is kind of essential.

The best materials are not only in PvP regions, but some of them require hunting boss creatures and that will require a team. As a general rule of thumb, the more that you want a certain material, the more dangerous it is likely to be to obtain, the more fun it is to get hold of :) Only in the PvP regions you mention can be found the supernodes. These yield precisely the same materials that you can find in the non PvP regions, only in greater quantities, I believe.

I wouldn't mind the PVP once I got the hang of it, but my friend doesn't want anything to do with it. She's worried about being forced to do anything but gather in order to get the best materials available. She hates grouping but she likes being in a community in which she can sell the things she crafts. So I'm guessing if she never grouped and hates PVP, she'd be locked out of crafting the absolute best stuff?

You've no need to fight for materials, all craftable materials can be traded. Selling stuff is probably not as involving as you've been used to elsewhere, in terms of the ingame mechanics, but has far greater potential in terms of dealing with people directly. See the Bazaar section of the forum. Whereas foraging is extremely deep and involved :) There's no need to group to forage, but creatures drop different craftable materials with different properties and a crafter should try every material they can get their hands on.

Crafting the absolute best stuff, by the way, is a long long long long way down the line, and there's not necessarily any best stuff since different situations and people have different requirements. Try the game and see how you go :)

absolutely not, but slighlty harder? yes:
- the best crafted items (e.g. 100/100 elemental amps, +3 parry armor, etc.) may need materials that are not harvested, but looted from mobs, some of these being "bosses", harder mobs that drop supreme mats. For most crafts there is no dug substitute for them (e.g. dug materials boost dodge mostly), and although you can buy / trade them, they are very sought after, so well, it is harder if you are not willing to team up and take part if available.

- some of the supreme dug materials are in PvP enabled zones. In fact those materials were put there and in more quantity to favor players fight over them (you can search the forums for the term supernodes, plently of threads discussing them. Sometimes players just agree not to be aggressive and share. it does happen that PvP triggers over some of them) This does not mean these same materials are not available elsewhere, In fact they are also present in non PvP areas although sneaking and getting to them can be considerably harder.
