Have started exploring and doing the various missions and most seem self explanatory. I really like the balance and depth, as well as the visual stye of the game.

In some games you can, for lack of a better word "Gimp" yourself at character creation or shortly thereafter. Eve-online comes to mind as an example. Are there certain skill or enhancement choices that will hurt you later on as you develop? Are there certain "must have" skill choices in each discipline?

No skill choice will hinder you in the long term, as you will be able to learn all skills. There are some skill choices that may slow down your progression as they are less than optimal at certain points of your carrer.

I value the healing skills very high, and would describe them as "must have". Healing if the first aid and ressurection skill in this game.

As to your questions no you cannot really gimp yourself in the game since you will be able with enough time and a lot of patience (or should it be "a lot" to both?) to get every skill in the game, so you cant really go wrong...much As for the essentials "heal self", gift life, sap, stamina would be one of the most usefull things you could get from the begining since this game is oriented towards group playing (i presume thats what "mm" in "all" of the mmos should stand for ) Hope that helps.
