Some last questions before I sign up

Hey all, I'm currently playing on the newbie island on a trial account. And what I have seen so far, I like. So I'm seriously considering to subscribe to the game.

But before I do that, I got 1 last question.

I have seen the newbie island now, but how different will the mainland be? I have heared that its not very quest driven there. Will it be grinding then, or are there other drivers?

I'm used to play WoW which is very quest driven and EVE Online where you could do a bit of everything.

I just want to get a good understanding of what to find on the mainland before I subscribe.

the mainland isnt very quest driven, if I'm honest the quest system leaves alot to be desired. Dont let this deter you though, there are many other things to do despite this.

its one of them games where you get out what you put in (and I dont mean time-wise). I've known low level players who were instrumental to my experience.

What are these many things? Its not that I'm negative to trying something new. Absolutely not, just I want to get an idea.

The mainland is quest driven if your willing to go look for the quests/missions, they are repeatable, and the main thing you receive as reward are dappers for fame. The missions are not like the newbie island. Ther are a hadful of ppl who do only missions for their dappers.

Yet there is lost to explore, and mobs to fight. npe is a wonderful starter island, mainland is pretty awesome to but that just my oppinion

Some ideas what to do in game:

Getting faction fame by doing missions (there are missions, but generic)
Getting tribe fame by doing missions
Encyclopedia quests for extra stats (Not too many of those)
Participating in events (official and playermade)
Explore the lands (learn to sneak and recognize different mobs behaviours)
Trek to other lands
Taking over outposts
Search for and dig materials
Experimenting with crafting to make better items (make notes!)
PVP (duels or factionbased)
Learning to kill bosses
Taking your packers to faraway digspots

etc (I think I've forgotten lots of things)

I'm a new player also and arrived in the mainland since 2 weeks almost and I was wondering what it will be when I will arrive there and... I have so much things to do !
Basically it depends on what you like to do in the game.

For exemple :
Discover a HUGE place (I have seen 1 city and 3 villages so far... Got lot to see), Find harvesting spots to get the materials needed for crafting, Group with who pass around and seems to need as much help as I do and discover the players new or not that are very nice... so... this lead to build friendships in the game, chat, helping each others to fight a bit, building up healing skills, sharing knowledge of the game that you are happy to share after with someone else (for exemple understanding the importance of editing the stanzas) and then you find yourself with a friendlist of 15 persons that talk to you even when they don't need to group ! And I'm not part of a guild yet... What will it be then???

There are quests and missions too, but for my part I'm not too fond of doing that. Also the complex storyline to discover, the factions and the PVP.

Grinding also is a big part but it's actually fun to do it with (new) friends.

For my part I will not run out of things to do for a while I think. I hope you will also find what you want.

Sit and chat with friends that you make.

Sit and watch the mob AI. For example, watch how a Varynx kills a herbivore then circles it, walks away then comes back to 'pick the corpse'.
