Just play without music, the ambience is so much more beautyful... but if you insist... ;)

Open your key config (click on the "system" text or icon on the taskbar), add new key, windows, show/hide, mp3 player. Assign a key. bingo! :)

And while you're at it, you might want to assign a key to the key config window (windows, show/hide, keys) itself, it used to be bound to "k" but I think became unbound with the recent patch.

I got as far as opening that and hitting the eject-open button
but after that I am totally lost.

The only way i can get music over to my music is by making a playlist then I click on it and all it allows me to do is too open it with Windows media player :(

Open a map containing the mp3's you wish to listen to. I recommend you left click on the last mp3, then press shift+left click on the first mp3. Can also choose individual mp3's; but will always play in the reversed order. Then hit ok or enter ;)
Then it should be pumping out the music of your choice in game :D
