Back for another try.

Post by mirthd »

In January 2005, I played Ryzom for about 3 weeks.

Think I rolled up 3 toons. A Fyros, a tryker, and I cant even remember the 3rd, or any of their names.
I know that my main toon, the Fyros must have reached level 40, cos he made it to a desert city on the mainland.

Anyway, since then, I have played numerous MMO's :
SWG, EQ2, City of Heroes and Villains, DAOC, EvE, Settlers of Ganareth, Dark & Light, Final Fantasy, WoW, and maybe even a couple others.

It's funny , but I always had that little niggle in the back of my head that I liked something about Ryzom, and intended to return someday.

I have been reading with interest about the Ryzom Ring, and the new starter quests in this patch, and I actually think this may be the time to make my comeback.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Could someone please tell me :
How is the community now ?
Any friendly UK or English speaking guilds ( with regular players constantly chatting )currently recruiting ?
I freely admit I am not as young a warrior as I once was, and although I will learn enough combat to survive, I would rather concentrate on Harvesting , Crafting and Merchant skills.

My favourite times were the 2 years I spent playing SWG as a Master Tailor/Merchant and Creature Handler.
Mirth Dragonfire - TRIAD Guild , Infinity Server --------(just in case anyone here came from there)
Once I settle in , I may even be able to entice a few of my old guildmates to join up here too.

So, what d'you think ? Can i make a go of it this time ? Can you still recommend Ryzom?
cheers,

:) Mirth :)

Sure, there are LOTS of friendly homins out there, congregated into guilds :) And, as Arispotle is the English speaking server, well, you should find someone to talk to :D

While it isn't necessarily a good idea to completely ignore the fight skill tree, you can become a pretty good harvester/crafter without fighting too much, you just have to be sneaky, a player skill as opposed to a character (numerical) skill. As for merchants, well, we either sell to the NPCs to resell to players, or post to the Bazaar when we have something good to sell.

I can wholeheartedly recommend Ryzom. Come on back :D

Hey! same with me, I played Ryzom beta...liked it, but my friends left, because they were playing warriors and warriors were gimped in Beta. If you remeber mages owned everything with Nukes. So I left also...cuz playing without my RL friends is not as fun. I played WoW, EQ, DaoC, Eve, bunch of others with free trials, Ragnarok Online, Silkroad(I loved this game, but then it got too boring with routine same quests)...well, now I hope everything is fixed here and I can come back(downloading the free trial atm). Any sugestions guys? Are the characters and PVP(I love PVP) balanced? Is it not like WoW, where the geeks that play 24/7 get the best loot+best rankings? Is it at least a little skill oriented? Im thinking about going ranged combat? Any suggestions? Prolly make a Matis again...

Welcome both of you!

@captainr
As far as I know, a nuker wins most 1on1 fights while the massive battles are won by the healers. Ranged fighters are useful for disrupting and turn the battles around.

But I am not a dedicated PVP'er, others will give better answers. I use 1h maces mostly and recently found a new love in autolaunchers - it's so fun pulling and killing a 3 mobs at a time while running for your life. :D
