Can't get game running

Post by kanezfan »

I have my PC connected to a 46" HDYV. I run windows in 1280x720 32bits 60hz. I can play all my other games at this resolution, but I've had nothing but problems with Ryzom. I've tried to play with the config program but so far the farthest I've managed to get is selecting my character, and then the game strats loading but crashes, with an error complaining about visual basic. Also, I've chosen to run full screen but the game stays in windowed mode.

The game requires minimum 1024x768 resolution to launch. Anything less in either dimension will cause things to fail. I will pass this along to the devs to see if anything can be accomodated in the future.

Ok well I didn't know that, I can run at 1024x768 although then things look distorted, but will try anyway to get the game running. A new issue came up though. I read some more threads in here and did the save.old trick, ran the recover file 5 times, and now I get the nel_drv display error when I try to run the config utility. How do I get that back, or is there another way to manually change the resolution?

edit: OK I opened the client_default.cfg file and my res is already set to 1024x768 32bit 60hz. I really want to try this game.

edit 2: I forgot, now when I launch, i get this error: Access Violation exception generated at 0x5B6D2C, thread attempts to read at 0x676F.
The thread attempted to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access.

This is on windows xp x64 btw.

edit 3: I just ran the recover program again and the game launched this time. Got to the char select screen in full screen mode and then crashed upon loading. It got to the 4th box at the bottom, which is the farthest it's ever gotten, and at the top right it said, if i remember correctly, 1.2.0.800 and below that it said dyieng firus, not too sure about the last part.

You don't want to edit the client_default.cfg file, but the client.cfg file instead. Otherwise the patcher throws a checksum error which might be the cause of the access violation...

OK, so do I just copy the entire clien_default.cfg into the client.cfg?

edit: Did that and still end up crashing with visual C++ error. :(

You might start with just copying the resolution lines ;)

I just re-installed and same thing. Is there an issue maybe with using the DVI output on my vid card instead of vga? Or how about running 64bit windows?

Loading the game can require some time, I guess you were on the best way to get the client started. 1.2.0.800 is the version of the client, and the 'Dying fyros' message is one of the random loader messages.

One piece of info I didn't see in your earlier posts is what video card are you running?

As I recall, there are issues with some video cards, primarily ATI cards I believe.
Samar d'Naz - Homin, pure and simple.
Desert Nomad

Crafter, Digger, Healer, Bug Smasher, Grey Beard, Surrogate "Uncle" to the Dodgey Duo

TANSTAAFL (unless you're a newb trying to kill Master Kincher, then its YOU!)
