a few questions

Post by salio69 »

hi all, i have been playing for a few days now, love the game, great graphics and excellent community. hi Rhyanna.

anyways i have a few questions. first, whats jungle/forest/desert/etc resistance? how do they work and what are they good for on jewelry? are they useful for pvm?

dual daggers, why are they soooo weak? i wanted to go dual daggers but it took ages and a day to kill anything with them, even daggers that had damage modifiers on them. someone was helping me lvl and introduced me to 2hd swords, and i was completely amazed at how fast and easy it was to kill things with 2hd swords. now i am more of the dual dagger person and i really wanna switch back to it but is there anyway at all to make them as good as a 2hd sword? everytime i ask someone in game, "are dual daggers good for anything?" there response is always, "well they are pretty to look at.lol"

anyways good game hope to see u all, i plan on making this my home for now.

PS: that video Ema made was the best video for a mmo weather it be pro or fan made. great job.

HI Salios! Welcome to Atys. :)

The jungle/forest/desert/etc resistances determine how well you resist various spells cast against you. From the notes when they were introduced:

http://www.ryzom.com/forum/showthread.p ... esistances

- Each jewel can have up to 3 resistances. Those resistances come from the raw materials which you use in order to craft your jewel.

- The new types of resistances (which replace the former ones) are as follows:

* Desert resistance: includes fire, blind, madness;

* Forest resistance: includes poison, sleep, snare (slow move);

* Lake resistance: includes cold, shockwave, stun;

* Jungle resistance: includes electricity, slow, root;

* Prime Roots resistance: includes acid, rot, fear.

- You get a bonus with the resistance of your originating ecosystem.

The resistances certainly are useful for PvP and I think the new patch will also make them useful in PvE.

Hi and welcome! Great to hear you're enjoying the stay! Hope you can last through the 4 day patch, already getting tough for me ;)

All magic on Atys is split into 5 domains, which happen to be named after the five terrains but it would be less confusing if you merely think of them as Domain A- Domain E. All players, and attackable creatures in the game have a set of resists. When a player wears jewels, they add to their resists. So say another player casts an acid spell on you. The game identifies that acid is in the Prime Root domain, or just think of it as Domain E. (To see what spells are in which domain, mouse over them on your P screen) So the game then compares the attackers elemental lvl versus your resist to determine the chance they have to hit you. If it does hit, then it proceeds to the damage calculation. Here jewels get another chance to help you out. If you have jewels with acid "Protection" (also visible on the P screen) it will reduce the damage inflicted by that percentage listed.

Up until now resists and protections were bugged in PvE combat (didn't work for anything except plants really). However, the patch being done now is supposed to be fixing this. It will be nice for example to have high resist and protection to electric when fighting kincher or fire when fighting kipesta.
dual daggers, why are they soooo weak?
Unfortunately, the short answer is "no". Daggers are bugged, and while the listed speed can get up to 60 hpm they won't ever attack at faster then 36/37ish. (Which happens to be the same as 1 handed weapons) This is not slated to be fixed in the current patch but they are aware of it and it should be fixed at some future time. Also it's important to note most melee stanzas don't effect the weapon in your off hand, such as increase damage and probably accurate attack.

My advice is always to do what you enjoy. Most hunting is in a team anyway, where the melees job is to just tank while elemental does most of the damage. A dagger user can do that just fine, especially if they equip a shield in the off hand to tank even better. Also, you might want to consider working 1handed sword and daggers at the same time. The damage over time, while still short of 2handed melee, is comparable and still has the advantage of dual weapons and faster attack rate for interrupting casters.

There is a new melee stanza being introduced in the patch that will help dagger users more then others. It's an action credit that wears the duability off your weapon in replace of using HP and stamina. Seeing as dagger speed is bugged, you can make a maximum damage dagger with just choice materials and that's about as good as it will get. Choice materials are unlimited and easy to get, so feel free to wear out your daggers with the new stanza limitlessly! :D

I soooo totally agree! Ema rocks. Nevrax should be paying her to use that video as a commercial :cool:

very well answered already, would like to add that daggers are bugged, but if they unbugged them ie fixed max speed they would probably be even more useless as you would kill yourself with the credit drains :)

1h sword + dagger is a very viable way to go and if you squint you could imagine its dual dagger :p

thanks for the answers.

so if i go 1hd + 1dagger will i still focus on close combat or will it put me in the 1hd area?

stanza... i been having some problems making them. every time i make one, it casts a spell instead of used as part of a melee attack. like i would try and make one that would adds fear to an attack but instead it casts the spell. am i doing something wrong? is it cus i used sap as credit instead of HP?

along with dual daggers, i was hoping to go dual daggers/dodge. like make a ton of light armor with +dodge modifiers and do status effecting attacks with daggers. a melee attack that blinds the enemy to help me dodge etc.

You will earn both 1handed and cc experience at the same time.

You can't combine melee and magic stanzas in the same action. It sounds like you are building with magic stanzas. The melee attacks all start with the crossed sword icon.

You can however alternate between melee and magic attacks in the same fight.

also i was the only way to get faction points is to do events by GMs. does anyone know when the next event is going to be? wouldnt it be better to implement quests to get faction points?

Welcome to Ryzom! *huggles*

As for the armour gallery, BM made a superb one here: http://www.ballisticmystix.com/dressingRoom.jsp

As for faction points, they were avaliable from one event, and the corresponding rewards are tied to that event too. There have been no other events since but we are hoping they will bring us another one before long :)

Don't know about the event picks.

Crafting Tool plans are from the OP mat based pattern trainers - they require OP mats. I think you'll find the trainers somewhere near the main gate of any race's capitol.
